The $29 Sweatshirt I Live In

Mar 10, 2020

Working from home three days per week is great, and terrible.   It’s awesome because some of my breaks consist of puppy snuggles.  It’s terrible because my breaks also include doing the dishes or the laundry.  But the best part of working from home is the freedom to wear what I want.

I mean, Avery and Sophie are wonderful dogs, but being able to wear jeans and a sweatshirt when I don’t feel like dressing up is amazing.  And when I’m not feeling great about my body, being able to wear leggings all day is just a gift.

For years, this Daily Ritual striped sweatshirt has been my go-to.   It’s heavy, wears like iron, and the side cutouts are a nice addition.  But last week, I found myself hunting the clean clothes bin for my new favorite sweatshirt.

This Dalamtian-print terry cotton sweatshirt is my new number one.  It comes in several other colors, but the spots are the one for me.  It looks great under a black blazer or an olive utility jacket.

One of the things I’ve learned about Skype calls is that no one’s really paying much attention to what you look like (most of the time).   As long as my hair is done, I’m wearing under-eye concealer, and I have on a jacket, I look very dressed up in that tiny box at the bottom of the screen.

If you work in an office, this sweatshirt would work well on casual Friday.  To dress it up a bit, add a pleated skirt and a cute slingback or wear it with a bold, green pant.

Truth be told, I’m probably sitting at my desk wearing this sweatshirt or its striped counterpart right now.  Because the other thing that sucks about working from home is that sick days aren’t really a thing anymore.

The Range: Grey Jeans for Fall

Sometimes you have to see a piece of clothing in the wild to truly appreciate it, seeing it in the store just isn’t enough. Grey jeans, for example. On a shelf, not for me. At brunch, on a woman who looked relaxed and chic? Now, I need them.

2013 Outfit Restyle: Bring the Tweed

The theme of 2013 was more is more. Wearing a bracelet? Wear five. Add a belt. Add a necklace, maybe two . . . make it three. So when I look at outfits from a decade ago, my first instinct is always: do less.
