Ask the Edit: Springtime Coats

Feb 20, 2020

While I love a classic trench, today’s questioner is looking for options.  Could there be another professional topper out there?  Or must she wear trenches forever?

Hi Abra –

Any suggestions for a business appropriate springtime coat…that isn’t a trench?  Trench coats seem to be the main option as the weather warms up, and while I love a trench, would also like a different option.

Thank you! B

I love a good trench coat as well (this BR Factory one is a current favorite), but it is nice to have options.  Here are a few more choices that might be right for you.

Boden always has a selection of coats that is sure to please.  This Christie Collarless coat is a lot of fun, while being professional.   The red trim on this navy Dove Coat is a classic.  But for something modern, I would choose this camel and grey coat-igan.

This unlined topcoat from Banana Republic comes in neutrals and a selection of fun spring colors.  On the more casual side, they also offer this double-faced hooded jacket and this twill utility jacket.

Mango also has a wide selection of coats.  This swing coat with a zipper is a pretty option in pink.  I also like this collarless coat in ivory or black.

The last place I would  stop is Brooks Brothers.  This Dobby Swing Coat is professional, and water repellant for those of us who live in rainier climates.  They also have a similar jacket in water-repellant cotton twill.

Oh heck yes, the price is right for that BR factory one! And it comes in petites!

The Mondays: July 22, 2024

The Crowdstrike/Microsoft Meltdown forced me to take a few days off this weekend. No laptop. No billable hours. So we packed Sloane up for a visit to a local llama farm, stopped by the pool, went for coffee, etc. Few things are as funny as watching a 23-month old feed carrots to a ravenous rescue […]
