Thursday Outfit: A Cool Casual Brunch Outfit

Feb 13, 2020

White denim, it’s not just for summer.  Mix it with the right pieces and you can wear it in any season.  Today’s outfit is neutral, simple, and a great option for the winter to spring transition.

The original source of this outfit has been masked by Pinterest, but I love nothing more than a new outfit made with pieces that I already own. (**Update** A reader identified the influencer as Erica, from Miss Louie.  Check out her YouTube for more great outfits.)  It’s the perfect outfit for casual Friday, a leisurely weekend brunch, or an early morning flight.  Here’s how to build it.

A Navy Trench is a slightly more interesting take on a classic. This Everlane trench coat has a modern cut that hangs with a slight drape. For a more structured coat, try this Brooks Brothers trench.

Looking for something under-$100?  Try this Calvin Klein coat.  Or if you want to splurge a bit, MM. LaFleur has a beautiful draped trench in navy (also in plus-size).

A Grey Sweater is a wonderful addition to any wardrobe.  It pairs with black, navy, white, camel, and so many other colors.  I bought this C by Bloomingdale’s cashmere crewneck sweater a few months ago, and I have been reaching for it often.

The set contains this slouchy Reformation sweater, which I love.  Everlane also makes a lovely, affordable charcoal sweater.  But this BCBGeneration turtleneck sweater with a high-low hem is high on my wishlist.  I can wear it today and next winter.   Plus-size?  This City Chic v-neck is a nice choice.

A White Jean. My white jeans are a wardrobe staple.  When I need to shake up a pre-existing outfit, I just add white jeans.  They’re a fresh way to breathe life into old ensembles.

I like these NYDJ jeans best. The material is opaque, even when stretched it doesn’t become see through.  They’re high-waisted and really hold you in, but they have a little bit of stretch so they’re still comfortable.  And they’re already hemmed to ankle length, so no need to take them to a tailor.  They also come in petite, and plus-size.

Accessories should be simple but interesting.  These bar front-back hoops from Moon & Meadow are such a great alternative to a round hoop.  I also like their half-open circle studs.

Soko Jewelry is handcrafted by artisans in Kenya, and the styling is sleek elegance.  I love this bar pendant.  When you hold it in your hand, it feels substantial and more expensive than the tagged price.  I’m also smitten with this interlocking teak and brass bangle bracelet.  It’s perfect for summer.

For the bag, I chose a Madewell classic tote.  It zips closed, so it’s a slightly better choice for traveling or running errands around the city.

Lastly, these salt-colored honeycomb Rothy sneakers are fabulous for spring.  They pair so perfectly with white denim, I may need to grab a pair.  And they’re machine washable, making them easy to keep clean.  Not feeling the loafers?  These Veja sneakers are on nearly every blogger wishlist.

Honest question – Why do you need such a big bag for brunch? I’ve a wallet and iphone ONLY kind of person. I have a small chapstick that fits in my wallet, and I just hand-carry my keys. Sunglasses fit on my head/face. I take a small crossbody if I absolutely must carry additional items.
I have 0 clue what I would even PUT into a bag that size unless I was taking a trip somewhere….

I don’t have a car, and if I’m already out then often I’ll run errands/do other activities. I have smaller bags, but if I’m out during the daytime I usually have a tote with me– it gives me more flexibility.

    • Belle says:

I typically run errands after brunch as well. But if you travel light, absolutely grab a crossbody or a clutch.

Love the mix of neutrals in this look which aren’t black. The color palette is elegant and it’s own and this dressed down version is great.

The Find: Bright and Striped

For the past few years, the wardrobes of many influencers have tilted toward the beige and boring.  I’m all for a good basic, but staple pieces can only take you so far.  Sometimes, you need to wear something that has a little something extra, and this sale-priced tee certainly does.
