The Elusive MM. LaFleur Sale Is On

Nov 19, 2019

Ladies, this is not a drill.  If you love MM, it’s time to head over to the sale to snap up your favorites at discount prices.

Here is the link to the sale page.  I suggest perusing the entire sale, as many items are 50% off.  But be advised items may only be returned for store credit.  Here are a few recommendations:

This Oak Dress from MM is one of my favorite purchases for this year.  The slightly crinkled fabric takes a simple style and makes it special.  And I love the neckline; it’s just a better version of a crewneck.  Also available in Plus.

I also picked up these Frederica flats that I’ve had my eye on.  I will report back on quality, comfort, etc..

Lastly, I replaced the Nichols tunic that I wore with jeans all.summer.long but somehow left in a hotel in Montana.

Any MM favorites in the sale that you want to vouch for?  Leave your thoughts in the comments.

Curious what size you took in the tunic? I had my eye on it before the sale!

    • Belle says:

Medium. I need it to be gentle on my hips, then tailor the sides down at the bust for the right fit. The small was okay, but the Medium is just more flattering to my pear shape.

  2. Marge says:

The Joan top is my favorite! I want it I. Every color!

  3. Kasey says:

Clooney pants are very flattering. The side slit in the leg could be weird, but it doesn’t flap open. The taylor dress is gorgeous and can easily go from work to dinner to receptions.

    • Pam says:

Love the Joan – have it in two colors; have the Etsuko in 4 colors! Have the Taylor too – very flattering.

So you love the Nicholls? I’ve been curious but was worried it was too long and boxy – interesting to hear you had it tailored!

Help! I have been planning to go to a showroom the next time I am in DC to figure out size and fit. I don’t have a great track record ordering online without first trying clothes on. What advice do you have to help a wary online shopper who thinks this is a great brand?

  5. Michaela says:

I recently set up a showroom appointment to do a closet refresh as a new to MM shopper; I was really excited to invest. Unfortunately I found a lot of the dresses were a weird fit for me (the were too big in shoulders or from shoulders to waist). I did buy a few things, but one of my dresses is already unraveling at the hem. Overall, I was so bummed having followed them here for years.

I guess all that to say, if you can swing it, a showroom appointment is super helpful to ensure the fit is right (even if sadly, the answer is that its not).

    • C says:

Unfortunately I’ve had a similar experience. The quality, at least of tops and ponte dresses, was just meh. Several of the ponte dresses from Old Navy that I’ve had and worn for years have held up far better than my MMLF pieces and were probably 10% of the MMLF price. It’s just super disappointing.

      • M says:

I also had this experience. The dresses never hit the right spots, and no amount of tailoring was going to fix it. The quality of the items does not justify the high price point. And the one pair of pants that I did purchase – the clooney – has not held up over time. Very disappointed, especially hearing so many “raves” about the brand.

      • Liz says:

I’ve had the same disappointing experience with the quality. My Etsuko dress started pilling on the hip after I’d had it only a few months and the hem of one of the sleeves began to fall. MM had great customer service and immediately sent me a new dress. Unfortunately, the second one has had the same problems, and I eventually had to bring it to a tailor to redo the hemming on both sleeves and the bottom of the dress. I love the styles, but in my experience, the quality doesn’t match the price.

    • M says:

My previous comment was moderated out – but yes to all of the above.

    • Meg says:

Cosign. I have definitely gotten a decent amount of wear out of my Etsuko, but it’s pilling so much after a year that it is essentially unwearable. I have had a lot of much cheaper dresses that have held up much better for longer. And the fabric of the other dress I have holds on to smells so much that I essentially have to get it dry cleaned every time I wear it (i.e., I don’t wear it any more). Unfortunately I don’t find the cost worth it, because they fit will and I like the styles.

  6. E says:

I swear by the Zhou culottes. I never thought I could love a pant, especially a culotte like that, but I do. Oh I do.

  7. Rose Luttenberger says:

Thanks for flagging the sale! I’ve been wanting to grab some pieces. Do you have any guidance on sizing? Have you found that MM runs “true to size”?

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
