A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing. — George Bernard Shaw

Chatty. How to start a conversation.

Circled. This Missoma ring was last month’s best-selling item.

Smashed. How meaningless work wears us down, a podcast.

Trod. These Franco Sarto t-strap pumps and dark purple Nine West heel are both too chic to b under-$50.

Solo. How do you learn to be happy alone?

Shopped. I finally updated my Amazon store, because these turntables (that I use to organize condiments) are the best $9 I’ve ever spent.

Guided. How to be the mentor that you’ve always wanted.

Dressed. This understated leopard loafers and navy sweater dress from Talbot’s (petite and plus) are on my holiday wish list.

Lifted. How to do a proper plank (because it’s better than sit-ups).

Suited. This eggplant Elie Tahari business suit is stunning. Topshop has a more affordable version.

Failsafe. How can I make sure that I don’t end up in another horrible job?

Continuing with today’s theme: How do you plan the perfect trip to Paris?

My friend, Meghan, travels to Paris a lot.  Her love of the French capital is unrivaled.  She is her best self when she is in Paris, and it shows in every photo and post.

Her new travel planning business, Paris, Perfected, takes the guesswork out of visiting The City of Lights.  Hours spent reading Yelp reviews and travel message boards are replaced with a simple questionnaire and recommendations from someone who travels to Paris more frequently than most of us visit our parents (sorry, Mom).  And did I mention that your next trip can be perfectly curated to your budget and taste for the low, low price of $25?

So if you’re planning a trip to Paris in the near-ish future, Meghan is here to help you make the most of it.

Wonderful quote, feels good to know all those mistakes I’ve made weren’t just me being an idiot. On being happy alone, I’ve always preferred being alone so when I meet someone who I’d rather be with than be alone, I know it’s important, because I’d rather be alone than be in bad company. My mistakes have taught me that!

  2. Meghan says:

Abra, thank you so much for this lovely shoutout!! Was so thrilled to see it. Appreciate you supporting Paris, Perfected and hope to work with some Capitol Hill Style readers soon!

  3. Deb says:

I love that Talbot’s dress. In the pic, it looks like the model is wearing navy booties. Thoughts on navy boots or booties? I’ve started wearing navy pumps, but now that the weather is getting cooler, trying to figure out the best option. Thanks!

  4. Emily says:

What a perfectly timed recommendation! I’m heading to Paris in 3 weeks, and between grad school and work I just do not have the bandwidth to put all the pieces together.

  5. Sof says:

Holy cow, since when does Talbots have such darling sweater dresses?? Love the neckline on that navy dress

  6. Liz says:

    Bookmarking Paris, Perfected now!

On another topic, with the holidays coming up I’m starting to budget for gifts for the nearest and dearest (a few girlfriends, my SO, parents, and siblings). All told, I’ll have about ten people I’m looking to get a “good” gift for, and I’d love your take on how to plan, budget, etc. (I’m notorious for not thinking I’ve overspent until I total up everyone on the list, and then it’s a rough Jan/Feb).

  7. […] Thank you so much, Abra for the lovely words about Paris, Perfected! […]

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
