Monday Outfit: Pretty and Professional

Nov 4, 2019

My business casual attire is often jeans with jackets.  It’s an easy outfit that always feels put together.  But sometimes, I want an outfit that feels more feminine.

Ted Baker Wrap Coat // Everlane Cashmere Crewneck // J.Crew Pleated Midi-Skirt // Gorjana Montcito Necklace // BR Leather Saddle Bag // BR Midi-Heel Tall Boot

Today’s outfit is from Lilly Style and mixes a navy pleated skirt with simple basics to create an outfit that is perfect for a semi-casual workplace/workday.  I would wear this on a Friday when I didn’t have meetings, but had a lunch or coffee to attend.  I would also wear it on the weekend to a brunch or a family event.  It’s pretty without being fussy.

Coat // A camel coat like this Ted Baker is a wonderful choice for fall.  The warm camel hues and funnel neck are very chic.  For a similar coat for under-$200, I recommend this Lucky Brand topper.  For plus-size shoppers, I couldn’t find a wrap-style coat, but I did find this longline coat from Marks & Spencer.

Sweater // Everlane’s cashmere collection is getting rave reviews.  Their Mongolian cashmere is advertised as pilling less than many types of cashmere, and also softening with wear.  And with the line running between $100-$150, it’s an affordable cashmere option.

The brand offers many styles, including the classic crewneck.  But my favorite has to be the lantern-sleeve sweater.

Skirt // Pleated midi-skirts are a classic.  If you love feminine styles, you need one.  And this J.Crew skirt is a fantastic <$100 option that is perfectly elegant.  This skirt comes in petite and tall, but if you need a plus-sizes option, check out this Modcloth skirt.

Accessories // The accessories for this look are simple, versatile, and equestrian inspired.  Let’s break them down.

The mid-heel tall boots lengthen the leg-line by seamlessly disappearing under the skirt.   This Banana Republic pair is a wonderful option.  They’re both stylish and comfortable.  Need wider calf options?  Anne Klein has you covered.

The bag is a simple crossbody saddle bag with a round buckle.  If you prefer a satchel, this <$50 Mellow World tote has many of the same elements in a work-size bag.

Lastly, this bar necklace from Gorjana has a versatile look to it.   I love the simple layering.  I also like their horizontal Knox bar pendant necklace.

Everlane is having a sweater sale today-many of their most popular styles are on sale for $100 including the lantern sleeve.

This is a comment towards the fashion industry, and definitely not towards the blog/Abra, but it’s so frustrating to see “wide calf” boots that only have a 15″ circumference. That’s not wide. It’s why I’ve totally given up on shopping for boots anywhere other than zappos, because that’s the only place that lets you filter by circumference, not some meaningless BS “wide calf” label. It limits my choices but also greatly reduces frustration.

Again, this isn’t a comment to Abra…I appreciate that you try to be inclusive in your options. It’s not your fault that the fashion industry does this BS.

Makes sense to me. I have a long torso, and sometimes clothing is labeled as hitting high hip, and I’m like, boy this is a nice crop top.

The J.Crew midi skirt also comes in plus sizes.

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
