Feminine in Fall Colors

Aug 28, 2019

No one elevates modern workwear like Anh at 9 to 5 Chic.  I am constantly smitten with her sense of style, and her effortless femininity.  This outfit blends olive and dusty mauve into a beautiful color combination for fall.

Jacket. The blending of pink and olive starts with the gorgeous coat.  Anh is wearing a Vince coat, which is still in stock at Nordstrom Rack in a few sizes, but it’s not widely available.  If you’re looking for a winter coat, try this one from Harris Wharf.

For a lighter option, AllSaints makes their Bexley Mac in a pale blush (shown) and a mocha rose.  For something a bit more affordable, try this Vero Moda trench or this Rachel Roy trench in plus-size.

Top. This blouse from Banana Republic has a mock neck in a lightweight poplin fabric.  It gives you the fall feeling without the heavy fall look.  For something a bit more fall, try this cashmere sweater from BR (also in petite).  I also like this Bar III tie neck blouse.  Plus-size?  Try this structured popover with a chic dolman sleeve.

Skirt. There is nothing like a great pencil skirt, except a great pencil skirt for under-$75.  Preston York has a sleek pencil in several colors, including olive.  Looking for a breezier style?  This Modcloth skirt comes in a swingier shape, also in plus-size.

If you’re looking for something simpler than a top and skirt, try an olive dress.  Preston York has an affordable sleeveless sheath dress, but I think the structure on this Donna Morgan sheath is a bit better.  Need sleeves?  Donna Morgan has a mock neck sheath dress and this knot front dress from WHBM is nice too.  Plus-size ladies should try this Forever21 mock neck dress.

Accessories. To pull the look together, I chose these Gorjana rose quartz and yellow gold earrings.  I know some of you aren’t big fans of yellow gold, but with the warmth of the olive and dusty rose palette, it’s the better choice.  If you’re looking for a white metal option, these Wild Lillies earrings are pretty.

This BR cognac tote is designed for a 13″ MacBook with a simple style and some pockets.  This wider option has a bit more storage. Or if you want to get out ahead of the trend, this Staud Moon Bag is about to blow up.

A simple dark brown pump from Sam Edelman is the best choice for this outfit.  You could also select a tortoise pump if you like.  Talbot’s has a chic pair, for something on the more affordable side, Dorothy Perkins has a good pair.  Need flats?  I like this pair from Journee or this simple Express pair.

Reversal. Want to reverse the look?  Grab this stylish Club Monaco trench in a deep olive, and this split-sleeve midi dress in blush pink.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
