I have the simplest tastes.  I am always satisfied with the best. — Oscar Wilde

Duh. It isn’t multi-tasking; women just do more work.

Frills. The little bow belt with this Boden skirt is completely adorable.

Astroturf. Are online beauty reviews just one big scam?

Beached. COS has the best selection of last-minute swimwear.  This one-shoulder is fabulous.

Maternity. Negotiating parental-leave before accepting a job offer.

Layered. This shaping bodysuit would be perfect under snug sweaters. (Wool, so itchy.)

Goop’ed. What happens when a reporter spends $1,200 on Gwyneth Paltrow’s wellness products?  Things get weird.

Winged. Butterflies are an unexpected print for fall, but it works. Also in plus-size.

Suffrage. Vote for the Woman Because She’s a Woman. (Read past the headline.)

Brightened. I love this pink under-eye corrector for hiding dark circles.

Overheard. My co-worker keeps fighting with her husband at work.

Frustrating. When the book you’ve been waiting all summer for is released after your vacation.

I’ve been very lucky throughout my career to have good direct supervisors.  But some years back, I had a boss who really, really played favorites.

He gossiped to his favorite co-worker about everyone from the executives down to the assistants.  He offered work-related perks only to his favorite.  He even went so far as to nominate the favorite for a very public award for work the favorite had barely been involved with even though the team lead had been nominated by others in the office.

Dealing with the daily upheaval of having a co-worker with outsized influence was frustrating.  So I wanted to take a moment to highlight this Thrive Global article about how to deal with favoritism at work when you’re not the favorite.  It’s an issue in a lot of workplaces, and this is the first good article I’ve read on dealing with it productively.

HATE favortism, especially at work!!! It has NO place there. I have a disabled child and one of my employees did too. Each year the company owner would give him extra stock options (because he liked the disabled child) that I had to give him. Do you know how hard that was? To give my employee something that I didn’t get but was just because he had a disabled child my boss liked? What a moral letdown!
People need to think how their favoritism impacts others! It hurts!

That article about the office mate who fights with her husband in earshot of the colleague is interesting. I’ve seen a growing trend of colleagues who are taking calls or always texting their spouse or significant other throughout the day. It seems that the spouse wants either support with their own workplace drama or to vent about the kids (think: stay-at-home moms). I get that spouses/SO rely on each other for support, but it’s also disruptive to our own office environments when a colleague gets a text blast from their spouse/SO during a meeting or is on the phone all the time in a shared office space. It seems to be the new norm, but sadly these colleagues and their spouses/SO aren’t thinking about how these interruptions affect others in an office setting or even their own ability to focus and be productive.

Anyone else see or experience this?

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.
