Kyle’s Best Anniversary Sale Picks

Jul 15, 2019

Several of you requested picks from the men’s section of the Anniversary Sale.  From casual fashions to the best gifts, my in-house  men’s fashion adviser was all too happy to provide his picks.

These Cole Haan Chelsea Boots ($140) are just a great deal (over-$100 off).  Simple black boots are something everyone needs (or needs a new pair of); the brown are also nice.  If you know a man who needs to wear better shoes with his jeans, these are the boots for him.

If the man in your life has to wear dress shoes to work every day, this is the time to buy. These Allen Edmonds Wingtips deserve a place in his closet.  You’re getting a great shoe that, if taken care of, will last for 10 years. (If you don’t take care of your shoes, you’re an animal who doesn’t deserve nice things.)

Much like jeans and whiskey … the Japanese just get it.  These Onitsuka Tiger Serraano Sneakers are a steal at $49. (These were my payment for writing this, in the white.)

I like AG jeans best, and they’re basically half price during the sale. Also, I think the wash on these Graduate Jeans ($149) is epic. I also like the dark grey wash on these Everett jeans.  Get both.  You won’t regret it.

Let’s be honest. He’s going to wear t-shirts, so they can at least look nice. These TravisMathew V-Necks ($39) stay wrinkle free the longest and the fabric is good quality.  Bunch of colors.  I own several.  All nice.

Since polos never seem to go out of style (but Croakies definitely did, so don’t pair them), give this Ted Baker polo a look.  The trim accents make it nicer than your average polo.

It’s time to retire the Patagucci … it will happen eventually and who doesn’t love being ahead of the curve?  This Ted Baker jacket is a good replacement.  If you’re looking to knock a little of the “old guy at the tailgate” off your casual jacket choices, this Bonobos Bomber and this Vince Tech jacket are both good picks.

Before I close, the Anniversary Sale is a great time to shop for a great suit.  For weddings, for work, to have in the closet for big moments.  It’s the best time to buy one.  And if you buy a suit, you’re going to need a tie.  Try this one in pink.

My dh has those ch boots and LOVES them. They spiff up a lot of more casual looks. Great pick!

  2. Aar1 says:

How should men wear low boots? How long should the pant fall? Like should the pant fully cover the top of the boot/just skim it?

  3. MORGAN says:

Abra/Kyle – could we get a post on how to properly care for our shoes?y I’ve recently purchased some very nice shoes and I want to make them last. What do I need to do to take care of them? Should I (and how do I) waterproof them? How often do shoes need to be cleaned and what exactly does that entail? What about polishing them? I’m looking for tips on leather, patent, and suede – pumps, boots, and sneakers.

  4. D says:

My husband has had difficulty fitting into Chelsea boots as he has orthotics. Is there another type of shoe or boot that could fit this role?

  5. Caitlin says:

Ugh, I wish I had seen this in time to prevent my s/o from buying an apparently very comfy but extremely uncool pair of Sketchers. Next time! Thank you as always, Kyle.

Ask the Editor: Vol. IV, No. Sixteen

This week, a handful of reader questions came in on the same two topics. I also rushed out an e-mail answer to someone who needed it in a hurry. And a friend from college had a question I think might be universal in the post-40 period.
