The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be. — Ralph Waldo Emerson

Professional. Bad work habits we all need to quit. (Can we please add monopolizing meetings?)

Targeted. This $21 wrap dress and $22 tunic are on my Target shopping list.

Writing. A beginner’s guide to journaling.

Printed. I’m deciding between these cheetah sneakers or these leopard ones.

Earned. How becoming the breadwinner changed my relationship with my husband.

Whipped. Thinking about giving this Stila “souffle” foundation a try.

Stopped. I retired at 38; Here’s what I didn’t expect.

Dotted. This $37 polka dot twist-front shirt is straight out of my dreams.

Fertile. Should I freeze my eggs?  And, how fertility startups convince women to freeze their eggs.

Different.  Looking for a unique work dress?  Try this black-and-white asymmetric one from Zulily.

Apologized. Why Rachel Hollis’s self-driven lifestyle brand is problematic for women.

I love Etsy for jewelry.  The pieces are unique, affordable, and usually much cooler than what I see in stores.  Here are a few of my recent favorites.

These pearl ear jackets are a nice mix of modern and classic.  This pretty little shop has a lovely selection of delicate necklaces.  And these long, rectangular hoops are perfect for going out.

Do you do much shopping on Etsy?  What are your favorite things to buy?

As a non-Christian who was kinda jealous of my friends’ cult around “Girl, Wash Your Face” I’m interested in the Hollis analysis…. interesting. I’m sure there’s good advice that can be very motivating, and some of it is certainly general enough to not attribute, but yeah, if something can be attributed (or easily traced…) to a source, just acknowledge it. No one thinks that you came up with everything all by yourself! Wow.

I’ve been suspect of Rachel Hollis since a friend said that “Girl Wash Your Face” was “smug.” The one friend I have that’s a huge fan is also the friend neck-deep in a MLM, so to me her opinion on books is not particularly trustworthy.

And I really love that wrap dress from Target. Thanks for sharing!!

  3. Kelly says:

Because I am not immune to hype, I am on my library’s waitlist for Hollis’s first book. The article you linked made her choices seem a little off, but the BuzzFeed article that one linked was even more illuminating about the alleged plagiarism and features her instagram quote posts. I don’t care if someone’s posts aren’t original, but I DO care if they aren’t attributed.

    • Anna says:

Woah, as if attributing quotes to yourself wasn’t enough of a turn off. That’s super shady. I’ve always found self-help/motivational books kind of obnoxious but was intrigued by the hype around this one. Definitely not checking it out now.

  4. M says:

Really appreciated the breadwinner and egg freezing articles. I’ve been struggling with what it would look like to go from earning equally to earning less and the authors explanation of her discomfort spending her husbands earnings resonated.
