Ask the Edit: Stylish Navy Flats

Feb 19, 2019

We are going to have a lot of Ask the Editor questions this week.  My inbox is swimming in a little under 200 of them, and I need to start publishing some answers.  So let’s start with navy flats.

Hi there!

I was wondering if you could help recommend or even locate some navy blue pointed or almond toe  “power flats”.   I’ve worn out my old patent pair from rockport, and lands end made a cute pair but I’ve scuffed them up to an embarrassing degree.  Love your blog – been reading for many years!!

Navy flats are a great choice for work or weekend.  They go well with a slim skirt or trouser at the office.  They’re also the perfect accompaniment for denim jeans.

How fabulous are these Zac Posen flats?  The gold accents are so unique.  Just the right amount of punch on a “sensible” shoe.  Sadly, even on sale they’re $175.  But if they’re an item you’ll wear with some frequency, they could definitely be worth it.  (I’m told they’re on clearance for even less right now.  Yay!)

For something in the mid-price range, these Cole Haan skimmers have a chic, modern look.  These Caslon suede flats are a great basic.

In the under-$75 category, this Trotters style is sleeker than the average loafer.  These Nine West Speakup flats come in many colors, including navy patent.  And if you’re looking for something a little different, try these Chinese Laundry Singer flats.

Do you have wide feet?  I found these Franco Sarto ankle strap flats.

I just got the Zac Posen’s for sale at $112 – Last call has them on clearance now. Yay!

  2. Amanda says:

I don’t even need navy shoes right now, but I want to say thanks for including a wide option! It’s really tough to scout non-orthopedic-looking wide width shoes and boots, so it’s nice to see that Franco Sarto has a few!

  3. Laura says:

I have another pair of Trotters (red pointed toe flats) and they are super comfy and stylish! I wore them straight out of the box to a conference and didn’t have any problems. Definitely great shoes!

  4. Pam says:

Thanks so much!!! I will be shopping tonight!

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
