“There are years that ask questions, and there are years that answer.” — Zora Neale Hurston

Hibernated. The Half-Life of Ambition. Taking a break can clarify what is important. #feelingthis

Lofted. This $30 blouse has the coolest print.  This floral, cuffed shirtdress is also fab.

Catwalked.  New York Fashion Week is dead.  Long live Fashion Week.

Painted. Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk, best “nude” lip ever.

Applied. Four quick, but helpful, tips for nailing your next cover letter.

Studded. Love these $25 pearl studs from The Rack. They also come in black.

Slimmed. The trouble with the “Fit Mom” trend, and how it impacts all women.

Snaked. These snake-print heels from M.Gemi are so, so hot.

Maligned. What to do when your boss won’t advocate for you?

Dished. Love these baby pink bowls from West Elm. Luckily, they also come in grey.

Unfriended. Facebook: Where old friendships go to never quite die.

I saw these Serena & Lily chairs last summer.  I haven’t been able to stop thinking about them.  Does that ever happen to you?  You see something for sale, and even though you have almost no need for it, you are completely captivated by it?

I just love how unique they are.  The rattan has a great vintage look that is somehow still modern.  Maybe I’ll grab a set for my new home office and just change the cushion color?

Love that Chair too…where to put it…..

  2. Jules says:

The fit-pregnancy article reminded me of a ‘general grievance’ about the world I have. Which is, why must women always be told that things need to be “effortless?”
About beauty, about career highs, about fitness, about cooking, about cleaning…. and now about pregnancy???!!!

I could never come up with an adequate explanation for this obsession with “effortlessness.” WHY aren’t we allowed to be proud of the effort it took? I’m sure it’s tied up with misogyny and patriarchy, but that can’t be all of it.

I’m really contemplating starting a family now, so this hits a bit close to home.

Do you think I could wear the Loft dress to a late March DC wedding that’s cocktail attire? I really like the dress but I’m not sure it’s dressy enough.

That Facebook friend article was super interesting. I’m one of those people who periodically goes through and actually deletes the people that I don’t talk to that often, so I don’t disagree with the article, but it was definitely a different perspective!

  5. Jen says:

The Fit Mom article has my postpartum hormonal self in tears… My husband constantly begs me to “please, be kind to yourself”. Maybe I need to take a break from all the fit moms I follow on Instagram?

    • Belle says:

Very likely contributing to the problem. I unfollowed a ton of people when I was depressed, haven’t missed even one of them.

  6. Christine says:

I was shocked when I saw the $98 price on that chair. How, for S&L, could that chair be so cheap!? Oh, oh, yes, it’s just for the cushion. $500 for the chair. ouch.

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.

Too Many Tabs: April 19, 2024

This week, I fell mindlessly into my phone more than I think I ever have. My screen time went from 3.5 hours per day to 5 hours per day. But the increased eye strain did lead to some good finds. Just going to leave this right here.  (I really need to work on “Didn’t make […]
