Three Ways: Burgundy Pumps for Winter-Spring Transition

Jan 16, 2019

Last fall, I bought a pair of burgundy pumps on deep discount.  I wore them to a couple of holiday events, but I need to figure out how to mix them into my work wardrobe.  Here are three office-appropriate outfits using burgundy heels as an accent.

Kendra Scott Tessa Studs ($50) // Mansur Gavriel Cashmere Sweater ($267) // Alice + Olivia Midi Skirt ($114) // Kelly & Katie Davonna Pump ($40)

Blush Outfit. I love rosy shades of blush and pink.  Pairing them with a burgundy accessory looks so fresh and modern, not to mention absurdly feminine.  I picked these pieces to mix different blush hues for a tone-on-tone look.

If these items are out of your budget, try this dusty rose v-neck sweater and $17 blush ponte pencil skirt.  Or if pink isn’t your color, choose another hue like an ashy-violet sweater and lavender pencil skirt.

Kate Spade Huggie Hoops ($48) // Factory V-Neck Sweater ($30) // Raey A-Line Skirt ($106) // Kelly & Katie Davonna Pump ($40)

Neutral Outfit.  Anyone who tells you that you can’t wear white after Labor Day is a liar.  For this outfit, I paired a white a-line skirt (because it’s more forgiving than a pencil) and a heather-oatmeal sweater.  The light color palette makes the burgundy pumps really pop.

Prefer pants?  I originally envisioned this outfit with a dramatic wide leg trouser, but couldn’t find one with a white background photo (#bloggerproblems).  These Cece wider-opening, straight leg pants are my best find, mostly because they are fully-lined.

I put up the Kate Spade huggie hoops, because I’m obsessed with close-fitting hoops right now.  But on further reflection, I would probably wear pearl studs.

Majorica Iridescent Studs ($30) // Kors Ruffle-trimmed Knitted Sweater ($66) // J.Crew Cameron Pant ($158) //  Kelly & Katie Davonna Pump ($40)

Blue Outfit. Shades of blue are always safe color choice for work.  They’re neutral, subtle and classic.  Here, I chose a detailed sweater and a simple pant for a great business-casual look.  If you ever feel like your work wardrobe is getting a little too dark, you can’t go wrong bringing in lighter shades of blue, because it goes with everything (black, white, gray, navy, khaki, etc.).

If you’re busty, this sweater is probably not your best look.  You can swap it out for this classic $64 cashmere v-neck from Bloomingdale’s.  Another great choice would be this Pepper & Mayne wrap sweater.

About the Shoes.  Don’t be afraid to use burgundy for a pop of color.  The hue is dark enough and timeless enough that it can blend with many different color palettes.  Looking for another option?  I love these suede J.Crew burgundy heels or, if you need a chunkier heel, these block-heel Kelly & Katies.

I adore all 3 of these, but the blush made me swoon. I haven’t incorporated a new color into my clothes palette in a while, but I think I will buy at least one blush item this spring!

    • Shanghai says:

Agreed! Loooooove the blush outfit. Wouldn’t have thought to pair it with burgundy, but it makes so much sense.

  2. MOnica T says:

Recently I realized that my wardrobe is almost completely navy and denim, so I’ve branched out and started trying something new by adding green and burgundy to the mix. I don’t wear heels, but I love the idea of a pop of pink and burgundy! Might need to find some flats or boots that fit the bill.

  3. Annie says:

If someone is looking for a flat alternative – I have the Everlane modern loafer in burgundy and find that I wear them all the time.

  4. Kate says:

Love to see this feature and these options! Love the blush.

  5. Elise says:

This feature is a favorite. Thanks for sharing.

  6. Lindsay says:

Big fan of this feature! You have a great eye for colors and silhouettes, and I love getting ideas to use with pieces I might already own. I saw someone requested you post these to Instagram so they could be saved. I know you used to use Polyvore (RIP) to create the collages. Is there an easy way to view the collages from your older 3-ways? It would be cool to be able to scroll back through the images. Thanks!

    • Belle says:

If you click on the link that says Three Ways, it will show you the old posts which feature the collages. Sadly, Polyvore didn’t archive the collages, and I didn’t take the time to pull them off.

The Crowdstrike/Microsoft Meltdown forced me to take a few days off this weekend. No laptop. No billable hours. So we packed Sloane up for a visit to a local llama farm, stopped by the pool, went for coffee, etc. Few things are as funny as watching a 23-month old feed carrots to a ravenous rescue […]
