Ask the Edit: Longer Workout Jackets

Jan 4, 2019

Hi Abra,

I’m looking for a lightweight workout jacket that isn’t rainwear that will cover my bottom while I’m out and about. Something I can wear to school pickup, the grocery store, etc. that’s a little more modest than things that hit at the waist. And I live in the south, so nothing too heavyweight. And nothing shorter in the front and long in the back.  Can you help?

Thanks!  Love the blog! Betsy

The more requirements you have, the more it limits your options and raises the cost of the solution.  You may have to compromise somewhere.  But let’s see what we can find.

I didn’t find many jackets that were long front and back, as well as dry weather attire.  This Full-Zip Jacket from Old Navy is one option.  This Lululemon Radiant Jacket is also nice, as is this Athleta Luxe Hoodie.

Looking for a jacket that is more like a coat?  This Victory Long Primaloft hoodie might be a little too warm, but it’s a great piece.   This LL Bean Luna Jacket is another good option.

Oiselle makes a long coat. It’s a bit spendy but it meets most of Bety’s criteria.

This is it! Thank you! Price isn’t an issue if I will wear it (and stop talking about it) but the Radiant jacket from Lululemon is close. It’s just too short for what I would like.

      Thanks, Abra!

You have to use some creativity to see the item as it is (and not as it is styled on their site…) but try J.Jill! They love tunic length stuff, and have a workout line with some nice jackets.

There is this from EB- it may be too heavy for you, but their quality is great:

I just purchased this during the holidays and I LOVE it!

Definitely covers your bum and is warm and cozy.

I have the cloudburst jacket from Athleta in Dove Grey and its nice. I’m not sure I’d call it rainwear despite its name because the material doesn’t feel slick. GL

I have the Athleta Luxe Hoodie and I love it, but it is very heavy weight and warm and does not cover my bum, so it may not be what the poster is looking for. I highly recommend it, though!

    Hey OP!

I had a similar set of requests – check out the Champion line of jackets at Target right now. I loved them so much I bought the light weight jacket and the snow parka. They are $50-$80 but it’s easy enough to find 20% off coupons online.

    Good luck!

Not sure if this is remotely what you have in mind but thought this one was intriguing: vhttps://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/84842?page=l-l-bean-sweater-fleece-coat&bc=&feat=fleece%20coat-SR0&csp=a&searchTerm=fleece%20coat. Quite a bit longer, but definitely enough coverage.

I have this jacket in black: https://www.target.com/p/women-s-cardio-track-jacket-c9-champion-174-black/-/A-53778652?preselect=53670844#lnk=sametab

It’s longer in the back, but shorter in the front. I bought it a few weeks ago, so I can’t speak to it’s longevity, but I’ve come to love Target’s various workout collections.
