Ask the Edit: Mid-Price Camel Coats

Nov 8, 2018

It’s coat week, but a reader has a more specific request.  So let’s talk about camel coats.

Hi Belle:

I’ve written to you several times and always love your responses. And I still loving reading your blog, 5 years later!

I’m on the hunt for a fall coat that can bridge the gap between work and the weekends. Ideally, I would like something that is about mid-thigh/knee length, and in a wool and/or cloth texture. I already have a trench coat and a down coat, so I need something for those in-between months here in DC. And, if you can find an awesome one in camel under $300, you’ll be my hero!

Thanks again for all the advice. — Allison

Camel coats are a wonderful winter staple, a pure classic.  I love them because they’re timeless and camel goes with every color between black and white.  Here are five coats in your price point that caught my eye.

Michael Kors Belted Coat ($180 + 20% off code SALUTE)

Cupcakes and Cashmere Fayola Coat ($175)

River Island Camel Collarless Longline Coat ($150)

French Connection A-Line Coat ($279)

Reformation Barton Coat ($288)

Of these options, I think the River Island is my favorite.  I like the sleek shape and the inverted notch style. The price is pretty great, too.  I’ve put it in my cart and removed it about 10x since Labor Day weekend.

Plus-size?  This Tommy Hilfiger coat and Dorothy Perkins coat are both lovely options.  Petite or Tall? Try this wool car coat from Gap.

Looking for a coat under-$100?  Land’s End is the only place that has really well-made coats at reasonable prices.  They also carry every size from misses to plus-petite.  Their Stadium Coat caught my eye, but they have a number of camel colored options.

I am loving Coat Week! Thank you for all these great recommendations. Any chance you can feature jackets with a single zipper up the front that seem to also bridge the work week and weekend? but not j crew?

    Thanks!
