The Best Makeup Product I Bought in 2018

Aug 7, 2018

Need a ‘wow’ eye look that takes less than 2-minutes?  Don’t want to carry an entire eye makeup palette when you travel?  Love color?  Come with me, and learn about the most-life changing product I’ve purchased this year.

This is the Charlotte Tilbury Color Chameleon Morphing Eye Pencil ($27).  It’s a chunky, heavily pigmented eye liner/eye shadow pencil that has made daytime looks a snap and evening looks a breeze.  Day-to-night issues?  This is your solution.  The brand describes it as a smoky eye in a stick.

I own several colors, but the Amethyst and Bronzed Garnet are my favorite.  The color is so rich and vibrant, you don’t need to worry about fading.  And since it comes in pencil form you can use it to line your eyes and layer it on like a shadow.

To get the nighttime look, the brand prepared this tutorial video, that is definitely worth watching.  I sometimes use the bronzed garnet as a daytime eyeliner with a pale pink, metallic shadow, and just blend it up onto the lid.

Need the look for less?  This Iman pencil has some bold colors; I like the teal.  For some more neutral hues, try this Boots No. 7 crayon or this NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil.

Great tip! thanks, added to my cart!

  2. Mila says:

The Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Shadows are another great option!

  3. Amy says:

My favorite shadow stick is the Bobbi Brown long-wear cream shadow stick. For a less intense look, you can rub just a bit of the product in between your finger tips to warm it up and then pat gently all over the lid. I’ve found that this is the perfect subtle wash of color for days when I want easy, no-fuss makeup.

  4. Hannah says:

Love the NYX jumbo sticks–have it in the iced mocha shade and it’s a great bronze. Lasts al day and doesn’t smudge.

  5. Leni says:

My favorites are the Beauty Pie eyeshadow sticks (both types) – I have oily lids but they work a treat.

  6. Saramel says:

Agree with the recommendation to check out the Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks if you like these. I have LM in seven colors! I use a synthetic eye brush to blend it out on both upper and lower lid. So quick and lasts all night. That bronzed garnet is beautiful. I’ll have to check out your recommendation too.

  7. Lilly says:

    Other nice options:
By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Misty Rock, Blonde Opal (Expensive but worth it!)
Kiko Milano Long Lasting Stick Eyeshadow in Rosy Brown, Golden Brown, Golden Beige, Light Taupe.

    Thanks so much!

I read this post and immediately ordered the amber shade. Thank you so much for your honest (and nonconflicted) reviews of products, it’s one of my favorite features of this blog.

I love stocking stuffers.  They are the best part of Christmas.  There’s just nothing quite like an affordable gift that’s funny or useful or chic (or maybe all three).  So here is Part One of my stocking stuffer gift guides, where nothing costs more than $30.
