The Edit: New York & Company

Apr 27, 2018

Can we talk for a minute about NY & Co.? ย I haven’t done much shopping there since I was a young intern (you know, back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth), but a few of their new collections look amazing. ย If you haven’t turned your eye in their direction for a while, but a few pieces that looked awesome for summer.

Also, one of the things I like about NY & Co. is that they’ve been quietly offering petite, tall, plus, and extended sizes (00 and 20) for years now. ย While some retailers expect a red carpet rolled out for them for recognizing that women come in sizes other than misses, these folks have just been making clothes for every size.

Gabrielle Union Maxi Dress ($79)

I think this is an incredibly chic look. ย It feels very Palm Springs — sipping Limoncello poolside, chatting about the latest beach reads.

Floral Maxi Dress ($89, also in petite/tall)

Can you tell that I’m kind of feeling maxi dresses this summer? ย These are my daytime pajamas. ย No more leggings, I bring you maxi dresses.

So if you’re hunting for a dress, top or accessory to spruce up your wardrobe without spending a fortune, give NY & Co a look. ย I would describe the quality as Limited-esque/Express-esque but with a wider range of styles and sizes.

I shopped there until they closed our only local store a few years ago. ๐Ÿ™

Our BR closed last year and Loft closed a couple months ago.

  2. Kandace says:

I rediscovered them last year myself. I adore their collaborations with Eva Mendes and Gabrielle Union. I don’t have a local store but have been happy with the online selection and customer service (the one time I had to make a return).

  3. Elizabeth says:

Yes! NY & Co. is where I get most of my pants. Theyโ€™re one of the few places that offer tall, curvy-fit pants (not just jeans!) in my budget.

  4. Anna says:

I don’t think I’ve been in one in two or so years. Walk by one on my way home from Silver Spring most days, maybe I’ll pop in?

  5. L says:

I strongly recommend checking out their options in-store where you can physically see the clothes. I’ve unfortunately have trouble with their quality. I like the shapes and designs but I’ve had a few dresses wash absolutely terribly – shrink several inches and pill nearly immediately. Some of the fabrications feel cheaper than I’d like as well. All of that said, I have had a couple of real gems for them and hope there are more of those in the future!

  6. Sarah says:

YES to this! I used to rock NY&Co all the time as a 22 year old 5’11 baby law student. It was the only place I could find pants long enough ๐Ÿ™‚ 10 years later, I haven’t shopped there in years, but looking at their website just now has changed my mind. Thank you for the heads up!

  7. Jules says:

    I’m wearing a NY&Co shirt today ๐Ÿ™‚

I usually stock up on basics (white and black blouses, plain black simple dresses, belts, etc) when they have their seasonal sales. I find the quality so-so. But for a $10 shirt, I figure if I get 20 wears, that was a fine deal. I’ve had pieces that last MUCH longer too, but the quality seems to depend item-to-item.

I do think their stuff is pretty cute. And they have sales very often, which helps ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Dahlian says:

It is one of my absolute favorite stores. I get most of my dresses and cardigans from there.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
