Item of the Week: The Spring Sweater

Mar 19, 2018

Oddly enough, I wear more sweaters during the spring than in the fall.  A cozy sweater lets me ditch the jacket on days that are just a step above chilly.  They also provide a neutral foundation for all the bold spring colors and feminine prints.  Here are my favorite choices for this season.

This J.Crew ruffle collar sweater is just the right mix of basic and feminine.  I love the way the delicate ruffle takes the sweater a step above ordinary.  And, since it’s J.Crew, some of the colors are on sale.

Looking for other options?  This pointelle sweater and ruffle stitch sweater from LOFT are both pretty and affordable.  This Ted Baker peplum sweater has a fun scalloped trim.  And for something modern and unique, I like this Uniqlo cocoon sweater.

Plus-size? Try this basket weave sweater or this ruffle-trim sweater. Petite? This Audrey Hepburn-esque pullover from Talbot’s is nice.

Check back on Wednesday when discuss a few ways to style this sweater for work and weekend.

Currently wearing this sweater in navy with maroon trousers and navy suede block heels. I have washed it on delicate cycle, and hang dried it with no issues.

I almost wish the ruffle on this sweater was a little bit more intentional- so that there’s no mistaking it for a really worn out neckline.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.

Before we start today’s reader questions, I wanted to take a moment to talk a bit about mental health. For those who experience mental health challenges — whether occasionally or frequently — talking about our struggles is a double-edged sword.
