Item of the Week: All the Polka Dots

Feb 26, 2018

The transition from winter to spring is always a challenge clothing wise.  It’s time to put the wool away, but it’s not yet time for cotton voile.  You’re ready to shop for spring, but you still need to dress for inclement weather.  It’s a mess.

One solution is polka dots.  They’re fun like spring, but in a neutral color palette, dark like winter.

This Mango dress is a stunner.  Can you say desk to date night?  The dots are big and bold, the color palette is neutral, the shape is appropriate for many occasions.  And the price tag?  Just $80.

Want, need, must have.  It’s a dress I’ll “throw on” and feel great about on busy mornings.

If you have a bit more to spend, this navy Ganni dress has a Pretty Woman look to it.  Topshop also has a playful wrap dress.  Petite?  Try this fit-and-flare from ASOS.  Plus-size? This ruffle trim dot dress is a lot of fun.

Looking for tops? Talbot’s has their Perfect button-up in a dotted print (plus and petite).  This Need Supply Co shirt in sheer Georgette is wonderful.  I also like this white, dotted wrap top from Club Monaco.  For something under-$100, try this Fifth Label ruffle sleeve top.

For something more avant garde, I just purchased this RIXO blouse is a slightly crazy green and white print.  It’s a splurge, but something about it spoke to me.

Only in the mood for dotted accessories? I adore this $13 scarf from Target with a varied dot print.  This Fossil crossbody bag is casual and modern.

My dark under eye circles have been the bane of my existence since I was 12. Is the cause lack of sleep? Dehydration? Sinus issues? Stress? Who the hell knows. But there they are, every day, telling the world that I am an exhausted working Mom.

Sloane loves the pool. She jumps from the deck into the water with a crash, never considering her own safety, only to emerge on the surface, shouting “Again!” The pool is my daughter’s happy place. But no place where I need to wear a swimsuit in public is a happy one for me.

The Mondays: July 22, 2024

The Crowdstrike/Microsoft Meltdown forced me to take a few days off this weekend. No laptop. No billable hours. So we packed Sloane up for a visit to a local llama farm, stopped by the pool, went for coffee, etc. Few things are as funny as watching a 23-month old feed carrots to a ravenous rescue […]
