Style Translator: Keeping It All in the (Color) Family

Jan 31, 2018

On this episode of Style Translator, the post where we take images from Pinterest and turn them into outfits, a tonal ivory and camel look from my friend Jean at Extra Petite.  It’s a elegant, simple and perfect for the office.  Let’s have a look.

Jacket J.Crew Double Cloth Thinsulate Coat ($199) // Blouse Iris & Ink Lydia Silk Blouse ($165) // Pants Land’s End Wide Leg Pants ($80) // Earrings Majorica Vermeil Earrings ($58) // Sunglasses Quay My Girl Cat-Eye Sunnies ($55) // Belt Ann Taylor Trouser Belt ($50) // Bag Street Level Solid Tote ($48) // Shoes Michel Kors Flex Pump ($99) // Blazer Reiss Myla Jacket ($225)

What I love about this look is how the pale palette makes it feel very sophisticated.  The kind of outfit that perfectly channels the Olivia Pope of old.  The outfit is perfectly gorgeous.

Base Layers. An ivory blouse and camel trousers form the foundation of this look.  This Iris and Ink blouse is my favorite, but if you need one cheaper, this Tahari ASL blouse is the way to go.  The camel pants were tough to find.  These Land’s End trousers are fine, but I prefer these Express trousers.

Need plus-size options? These Talbot’s straight legs and this Who What Wear blouse should do the trick.

Accessories. I love pearls with white or ivory tops.  These Majorica earrings have a lovely gold and pearl mix.  If you want something simpler, these $22 pearl studs are the way to go.  A pair of cat-eye tortoise rims adds a bit of glamour.

This belt is a simple alternative to the Gucci belt that Jean is wearing.  For something a little more interesting, this Chico’s belt has a cool origami style.

The shoes are a simple beige pump to complement the trousers.  These MK pumps are very comfortable if you walk a lot at work.  Jean is carrying a Goyard bag, but they’re not my favorite.  I’ve never understood the obsession.  But I liked the navy hue with the outfit, so this Street Level tote is a great substitute.  If you’re looking for more of an “investment” piece, this Furla bag is positively amazing.

Toppers.  A white coat is impractical, but oh so chic.  This J.Crew Lady Day Coat is an elegant, feminine style.  You can also try this Iris & Ink boucle coat or this ASOS funnel neck coat.  However, if you want a real stunner, this Forever New Frill Coat.

If you’re headed to a conservative, professional office, add a white or ivory blazer.  This Reiss blazer is sadly sold out.  Tahari ASL offers a classic white blazer, and Vince Camuto offers one with a little flair.  This Express boyfriend jacket is a cool alternative.

The key to this outfit is the color combination and the proportions.  Keep it classic in white and camel, and keep the trouser leg anything but skinny.

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.

Too Many Tabs: April 19, 2024

This week, I fell mindlessly into my phone more than I think I ever have. My screen time went from 3.5 hours per day to 5 hours per day. But the increased eye strain did lead to some good finds. Just going to leave this right here.  (I really need to work on “Didn’t make […]
