Three Ways: Styling a Faux-Wrap Skirt

Jan 29, 2018

If you have all the pencil skirts that a woman will ever need, it’s time to hunt for new styles.  A faux-wrap skirt defines the waist and is gentle on pear-shaped hips.  Once you find one that suits you, you’ll never want to wear anything else.  Here are three ways to style a faux-wrap skirt.

The Skirt. Iris and Ink Amber Wrap-Effect Skirt ($115)

This skirt is a classic.  It has a below-the-knee length that could easily be hemmed.  The Gap also has this ruffle-front wrap skirt.  This Vince Camuto skirt and Cece Ponte skirt are both worth a look.  Plus-size?  This Calvin Klein skirt or this City Chic skirt are both worth a look.

For Cocktails. Telsa d’Orsay Pump ($72) // Baublebar Mariachi Tassel Earrings ($42) // Perseverance Lace Bodysuit ($144) // Mango Embroidered Clutch ($24)

I was so smitten with this lace bodysuit that I bought it the second I saw it.  I hope it lives up to expectations.  The stand collar and the v-neck are sophisticated and structured, while the lace is glamorous.  Looking for something similar?

This H&M blouse has a cool lace pattern.  Plus-size? This City Chic lace blouse is lovely.  Petite? This Lost Ink blouse is nice.

To complete the look, I added a tassel earring and cool embroidered clutch.  I love the look of the clutch because it’s really unique without being too loud.  I also love this Anna Sui chinoiserie clutch.  If you want a less dramatic earring, try this $14 Monet earring.

For the lipstick, try this matte lipgloss in Dangerous Liaison.  Use an eyeshadow pencil for a quick smoky eye with a liquid liner.

For the Office. H&M Short Jacket ($55) // Iris & Ink Lydia Blouse ($165) // Talbot’s Erica Burnout Pumps ($52) // Sole Society Faux Leather Satchel ($55)

How cute are these pumps with velvet burnout dots?  I adore them.  And you can’t beat the price.  The Talbot’s sale also has these great ruffle-front sandals.

I kept this look really simple and classic: a black short jacket and a tie-neck blouse.  This jacket is a great price, but if you’d like something that’s a bit better quality, this Rebecca Taylor jacket is where to start.  The tie-neck blouse is lovely, for something more affordable, try this Ralph Lauren blouse has a little bit of drama to it.

Lastly, I added this feminine Sole Society bag.  For the makeup and hair, I would carry in this same vein with a simple makeup look and sleek chignon for the hair.

For Casual Days. Comme des Garçons Play T-shirt ($130) // Astley Clarke Honeycomb Hoops ($290) // Audrey Brooke Winny Flat ($45) // tde. Box Bag ($280)

This skirt is sleek, but can also be styled in a playful way.  This Comme des Garcons striped shirt is a fun take on a classic with the heart graphic.  But bring in any graphic tee that you like for something a bit different.

I chose a round-toe flat, but a pointed toe shoe would also work.  You could also go with a fun boot like this Case Ankle Boot.

With the flat, I decided to bring in a more structured bag.  You could, however, choose a simple tote.  I love the cool handle on this French Connection bag. And I love these honeycomb earrings.  For something similar for less, try these Moonstone hoops or these $14 flat hoop earrings.

For the hair, a half-up hairstyle with a barrette or ribbon.  For the makeup, a sheer red lip.

Silly questions – do you find that there’s an issue with VPLs on bodysuits? I’m intrigued but uncertain…

    • Ana says:

I have a Collection shirt from Jcrew that has no VPL and another one from their regular line that definitely has VPL so I think it depends on the quality of the shirt..

    • Belle says:

I haven’t noticed one, but that may be because I only wear my J.Crew bodysuit with jeans. I think you’re right that it could be an issue.

  2. Crockett says:

The bodysuit is gorgeous! What would you wear underneath it?

    • Belle says:

I have a black tank/bralette that fits snugly enough that I think it will work. If it looks bulky, I’ll have something sewn in.
