One of my favorite things about being single was staying in. Now, the second Kyle goes out of town, it is time for takeout, trash TV, and face masks. It’s glorious. He’s headed out of town next weekend, and I got to thinking about what makes a good night in. Here are my top picks for a little me time.
Cozy Pajamas. There is nothing like a pair of soft, cozy pajamas. At the end of a hard week, changing into a pair of snuggly pjs is so healing. Just like a deep breath when the work week is done. Leggings are great, but a chic pajama is better.
I own this Calvin Klein pajama set. It’s the perfect mix of cozy and stylish with these mesh insets that keep it from being too dowdy. I also like this Splendid pj set. This sophisticated burgundy pj set from Blush Lingerie is an affordable $49.
Plus-size? The Croft & Borrow grey-heather pjs look cozy. Pregnant? These Savi pajamas can be used as a nursing top later.
Warm Slippers. These slippers are my very public shame. I hate Uggs, hate them. I don’t understand why people think it’s appropriate to wear their worn out, water-stained, house slippers to brunch. Perhaps, I’m not meant to. But inside the house (and only inside the house), these slippers are like a vacation for your feet.
The Ugg Ansley slipper keeps my feet warm all winter long, even in the -25-degree Montana temperatures. These $20 slippers from Target have a nearly identical look. Not a slippers person? These feathery cozy socks are so warm.
A Fux Fur Blanket. If you want to snuggle up on the couch (and there are no chubby black puppies available), a faux fur blanket is the way to go. I bought one, and our yorkie-pom, who is half cat, half dragon, claimed it instantly. That’s how you know it’s good. When your pets are like, “No, sorry, Mama, this is too good for you. I think I just need to keep it.”
This pale grey throw blanket from Nordstrom is the high-fashion, blogger version. This Berkshire blanket is an affordable $50. If you’re not into fur of any kind, even faux, try this chunky knit wool throw.
A Lovely Candle. I clean the house on Friday afternoons so that it’s clean for the weekend. And when I’m done cleaning, disinfecting, and Febreezing, I want the house to smell nice. Even thought, I’m not a candle person, this PaddyWax grapefruit candle is nice. I also like the inexpensive grapefruit ones at Trader Joe’s.
A Binge-worthy Show. When the week is over, I need something to take my mind off of well, everything. Something funny is best, but in the absence of that, something intriguing. These are my current favorites to watch when Kyle’s not around.
I mentioned The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel yesterday, and I adore it. So charming and funny. I watched 13 Reasons Why last fall. I didn’t think I’d like it, because I lived through high school drama once already, but I binged it all in a single weekend. Other shows I love? Feud, Grace and Frankie, and The Crown.
A Cozy Beverage. Maybe you’re into wine. Perhaps, you like a cold beer. I am either drinking hot chocolate or tea on a night in. And if it’s been an especially hard week, maybe there’s some whisky and lemon in my tea.
To make sure that I have enough cozy beverage to get me through an evening, I use a teapot and cup set. This Le Creuset set is cute and keeps your beverage really warm. The Cadbury drinking chocolate is my favorite, especially with these fluffy Wondermade marshmallows. For tea, my favorite is the Tea Forte Earl Grey.
An Indulgent Treatment. After several days of makeup, my skin just needs a rest. I’ll treat my wrinkles and acne some other day. This cooling cucumber sheet mask is one of my faves. I also enjoy this gold collagen mask.
If you’re looking for some other beauty treatments, a hair mask can really revive overworked locks. I especially like this Christophe Robin mask that preserves your hair color. Just remember a shower cap. You can also do this PoshPeel treatment that helps remove dead skin from your feet.
A Fun Read. Do you subscribe to the Girls’ Night In newsletter? It comes out every Friday morning, and is filled with long and short reads to start your weekend off right. It started in D.C. (yay!), and the author is a big proponent of self-care. You can subscribe on their site.

I asked for Ugg slippers for Christmas after seeing you suggest them so many times. I got pink ones with a fluffy pom pom on the front. They are hideously adorable. I wear them in the house only with the occasional wear through the garage into the car so my feet can be cozy on my drive to work. Once in the parking lot I slip my heels on and cringe as I run into work.
Ha – I also asked for Ugg slippers for Christmas and got a $10 mule instead from my MIL. Just ordered the Uggs because I have a long, cold tax season ahead of me and I deserve them, dammit!
UGG slippers are maybe one of your best recommendations. I love mine so much. I’m trying to convert my mom to them.
Long time reader, but I don’t usually comment. I was motivated by this excellent post! Really enjoyed these tips. 🙂
All of these things! Other bingeworthy shows: Master of None and Mindhunter. I’ll also recommend some order-in sushi that can be consumed on the couch. Happy Friday!
Haters gonna hate on Uggs, but those things are so freaking warm — the sheepskin is cush. Confession: I did mistakenly leave the house for an errand not realizing I was still wearing them. Call it a waste of gas, but I drove home to change. 🙂
I was running out to the hospital a few Thanksgivings ago for a family emergency, stepped in the garage while wearing them, my brother looked at me and said, “Hey, you have your Uggs on.” I ran back into the laundry room, grabbed my boots, and thanked him for looking out. I felt silly about it later given our destination, but a rule is a rule 😉
I was going to buy these PJs, I have a similar pair of CK ones and was torn between the med or small. I cut all my tags out of clothes due to irritation so can’t remember how CK sizing is. If don’t mind me asking what size did. you select?
Small for a size 4-6.
Just started the Marvelous Mrs Maisel tonight at your recommendation, and it’s adorable!
yes, I love GNI!
I own the Target slippers you linked. They are an excellent dupe! I may go buy a backup pair before they’re discontinued.
