The Beauty Edit: A Must Have Serum by Aphorism

Nov 2, 2017

Before I start this post, let me say, that I bought this product myself.  No one sent it to me.  No one paid me to try it.  I read about it in this article, and thought, “It can’t be that good.  Can it?”

***

The Night is Young Serum by Aphorism is 100% plant based, made mostly from cold-pressed ingredients like rose hips, burriti fruit, and papaya.  It also contains beta-carotene to promote cell renewal, and Omega 5 & 7 oils to improve hydration and combat the signs of aging skin.

The company (and the commenters on their site) promise A LOT.  Less acne, fewer wrinkles, brighter, softer, more hydrated skin.  I read their endless praise thinking, “The moon?  Does it also come with a side of moon?”

Before we talk about my results, I should tell you that I stopped using every other nighttime product in my arsenal in order to give this a proper review.  No retinols, serums, moisturizers.  Just this oil, and a hint of eye cream.  That’s all I’ve been putting on my face.

The first night I used it, I woke up the next day and thought, “Whoa, my skin looks brighter.”  The third night I used it, I noticed that it was softer and my acne seemed to be clearing up.  The product was good, but was it great?

On the fifth night, I decided to put the boots to it and broke out my GloPro MicroNeedling Tool (review forthcoming).  The micro-roller pokes tiny holes in your skin to allow your serum to penetrate deeper and improve collagen renewal.  It’s not an especially pleasant experience, but it improves the performance of your serums by 5x at least.

Holy smokes, ladies.  I woke up the next morning and was ready to give the Aphorism people all my money.  What other products do you make?  What else can I buy?  Can I move into your shop’s basement?  I’ll pay rent.  Seriously.

The Night is Young is not cheap.  It comes in at $93, but the shipping is free.  And you only need 3-4 drops a night, so it should last for a while. But trust me, whatever it cost, I would pay it.

I’m so in love with this serum, I am ready to throw out every other product on my vanity.  Even my very beloved Ole Henriksen serum.  If this keeps up, I could be one of those low-maintenance girls with only three skincare products in the house.  Can you imagine?

Cue the Hallelujah Chorus.

Update 4/14: This is not, I repeat, NOT, a sponsored post.  I bought this bottle of serum with my own money, like usual.  Since the post originally ran, Aphorism has started using it in advertisements without asking me.  I have not received any compensation for the post.  After it ran, they sent me a free bottle of serum as a thank you gift.  I love the product, still use it most nights, and I’m sorry that their unauthorized use of this post in their ads has made people think it was sponsored.

Whoa. That IS a positive review. I need to try this! Also – thanks again for reviewing products and being so transparent in regards with whether they’re paid endorsements or not. It’s appreciated.

  2. Sarah says:

Wow, I might have to try this one. I bought the Ole Henriksen serum based on your recommendation, and it seriously changed my life. I’m on my 3rd bottle. My skin has never looked better. I’ve been meaning to say thank you for awhile!

  3. Virginia says:

I have way too many products right now that I feel a bit overwhelmed with my stash. I would only want to buy something if I knew that it was really the ONE. Can you update this review in a month to tell us how it’s going?

  4. Hunter says:

Just ordered it – sounds like a gem! Also, ordered “rub of the green,” because why not? 🙂

  5. thb says:

Done along with Rub of the Green. The roller is a bit much, but well, it’s winter and things are looking a little dull in the mirror. Maybe next month for Christmas.

  6. Jess says:

Can I just say as an amateur herbalist, that I love it when people find products made of you know, natural things like plants, that it makes me so happy! The products in this are like a who’s who in the herbalist plant world. Awesome.

  7. ANGELA says:

I would love to try this but I’m allergic to lavender! I also feel meh about ole henriksen. Any other suggestions?

  8. Susie says:

Thank you so much for this. I can’t wait to try.

  9. Rachel says:

Does anyone know of a discount for aphorism?

  10. Kelly says:

I would order immediately had I not just started a new bottle of The Ordinary’s Rose Hip Oil. Will remember for next time.

  11. Laurie says:

Ordered! I’ve been trying a few things from sephora here and there, but wasn’t wildly impressed with any of them. I was thisclose to ordering the Korres Wild Rose + Vit C serum which did have better results than some of the others I tried, but here’s hoping the Aphorism one will work even better. Thanks for the recommendation.

  12. Yeah.. no. Essential oils + my skin DO NOT WORK. I want to love this. I really do. I’m so happy it works for you, but I tried argan oil, I tried rose hip oil, I tried everything under the sun to be “natural” and nothing has worked better than Paula’s Choice and cleaning up my diet to fix my acne and have people mistake me for being 20-ish instead of 15 years older…

  13. nEENZ says:

Any tips on where to find samples of this (and other similar products) to test out before committing? It sounds amazing but before committing and switching out my products it’d be nice to have even a tiny two day sample to see if there are any immediate adverse reactions.

    Also, appreciate the honest review!

  14. Kay says:

Do you still use the Dr Dennis Gross pads? I’m curious as to how something like that stacks up to the serum.

  15. Victoria says:

…..so why was this an ad on my Tumblr feed? ????

    • Belle says:

Aphorism has started using this post to promote the product since it ran several weeks ago. I haven’t been compensated by the brand monetarily. Since writing the review, they sent me a thank you bottle of serum.

Happy Hour: Atlantic Beach Pie

There are two kinds of people in this world: People who eat cake on their birthdays and people who don’t.  And some of the weirdos in the latter category (I said what I said) eat pie as an alternative.  So if you’re a “birthday pie” eater with a late summer celebration coming up, may I […]

The 2010s Trends I’m Loving and Leaving Behind

Our tween and teen nieces spent the first half of 2023 reviving our high school fashions.  From peasant tops to low rises, I felt like I was back bopping to N’SYNC in my mint-green sedan for a minute.  Now, our 20-something direct reports are bringing back the 2010s in a big way, and I am […]
