Daily Quote.

“If my life wasn’t funny, it would just be true, and that is unacceptable.” — Carrie Fisher

The Top Story.

I’m a Coward: how sexual assault and harassment make cowards of us all. (The Cut)

The allegations against Harvey Weinstein multiply daily.   Apparently, Hollywood made jokes about it for years, but no one felt empowered to do something.  The women sharing their stories are subject to what Jezebel called “the jury in the comments section.”  The backlash has gotten so bad for some, that Evan Rachel Wood felt the need to explain why she hasn’t named her abusers.

I hope something positive comes out of this, but given that Hollywood forgave Woody Allen and Roman Polanski even has defenders, I’m expecting to see a thinner Harvey Weinstein at the 2019 Oscars.

The Daily Reads and Links.

1) Need Scarves? You need ASOS. I bought this blanket one and this bright one.

2) A guide for people who work from home. (Quartz)

3) Drunk Elephant’s Sukari BabyFacial now comes in a mini, try-me size.

4) Why I stopped drinking on dates. (Man Repeller)

5) Under-$100: a piped button-up, a cable sweaterdress, an olive parka.

6) How to boost your confidence before a big meeting. (Career Contessa)

7) Love the neon accent on this Duffy sweater. Also, this ponte dress for work.

8) Habits that are keeping you from saving. (Camille Styles)

9) This super chunky merino cable throw is cozy and incredibly chic.

10) What to do when you’re bored at work. Because we’ve all been there. (Refinery29)

The Daily Ws.

What I’m Reading. The Big Life, Ann Shoket.

What I’m Making. Green chile and egg breakfast tacos.

What I Need After Not Sleeping. These Skyn Iceland firming eye gels.

Instagram of the Day.

One of my favorite Instagram accounts is CopyCatChic.  Reichel Broussard shows you how to design the best Pinterest looks in home decor for less.  Much less.  Her blog posts always make me want to redecorate my whole house.  Sigh.

I cannot tell you how much I love that instagram!

  2. Lizabeth says:

Maybe I’m a pessimist, but our president has admitted to sexual assault. Why would we expect Hollywood to be at a higher standard than the President of the United States?

    • Belle says:

Lots of people cared (and care) about that. It’s sickening how he was able to minimize his “locker room” behavior. But don’t get confused, this isn’t about a higher standard. It’s about THE standard. I’m not giving Hollywood a pass just because other people got one. I won’t let cynicism prevent everyone from being held to an acceptable code of conduct.

      • Jess says:

Excellent point about having THE standard. And while I do not like Trump, I think it’s good to point out that he isn’t the first president to have issues of a dubious nature, Clinton and JFK are obvious ones that come to mind. I’d be curious to read something on shifting standards of morality in this country, not just in those that are high profile but across the population.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
