Dear Belle – Thank you for reminding us about the “Edit” Menu at the top of the bar. What great books! and I like everything I see in the fashion/beauty items too.

  2. Kim says:

Wait, so where is the August Edit and Book Edit? They aren’t showing up in my RSS feed. Do you have to click through to the blog to read them?

    • thb says:

Kim – click on “THE EDIT” which is to the right of The Work Edit at the top of the page. A menu comes down! There are menus in Categories and Workday Reading too. I love it!

    • Belle says:

They’re not separate posts. They’re under The Edit. I meant to link to them in that post, and just fell asleep on the couch.

  3. Anna says:

One thing that’s never mentioned in stories about unpaid internships is that members have a cap of how many people can be on staff. My office offers an unpaid internship program in the district and we can only take on 3 interns at a time in two cohorts. We’re usually at our max and have to make sure we don’t overlap with months we’re paying for caucus staff or shared employees, and we don’t have a very large staff. In the summer months, we have a total of nine or ten interns between our two offices. If we only did paid internships, we’d have to cut that number down to three (unless we get rid of permanent staff), so that’s seven kids who don’t get to have that experience. Also, good luck arguing to increase congressional budgets to pay for these interns. Hill staff already earn a pretty pathetic salary for the hours and kind of work we do.

    • Belle says:

Agreed on all counts. I think what they also don’t take into account, is that most offices will let you set a schedule shifts to work other jobs. Is it ideal? No, but when I was interning, I and almost every intern I knew was bartending, working retail or some other job to put food on the table.

  4. Alison says:

Huh, had no idea about this “Edit” menu. I never would have seen these if you hadn’t mentioned them, I know this kind of magazine style layout has become popular for blogs and websites, but they never really work for me. I just read whatever post is right on top but when there’s so much going on on a page I just sort of give up hunting for anything else. Maybe it’s just me…

    • Belle says:

This aren’t being updated but once a month. So I’ll post a link to them when I edit them. the design will change somewhat to go back to a chronological style.

  5. Jill says:

Absolutely love Odd Mom Out. So smartly written.

My dark under eye circles have been the bane of my existence since I was 12. Is the cause lack of sleep? Dehydration? Sinus issues? Stress? Who the hell knows. But there they are, every day, telling the world that I am an exhausted working Mom.

The Mondays: July 22, 2024

The Crowdstrike/Microsoft Meltdown forced me to take a few days off this weekend. No laptop. No billable hours. So we packed Sloane up for a visit to a local llama farm, stopped by the pool, went for coffee, etc. Few things are as funny as watching a 23-month old feed carrots to a ravenous rescue […]
