What To Wear With: A White Blazer

Jun 5, 2017

Last week, I promised you a post about how to style your white blazer.  I made one, but it looked too similar to the post I had put up the year before.  So I decided to try something a little different.  Meet, What to Wear With…

Pearl Earrings. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: when you wear white or ivory a pearl earring lifts the light color up to your face, and gives you an almost halo-like effect.  If I’m wearing my white blazer, I’m almost always wearing pearl earrings. These Majorica drops are a good place to start.  Or, if you prefer studs, these Perlaviva cultured studs.

A Black Skirt.  Whether you choose a simple pencil or a something with a bit more flare, you need a black skirt when you own a white blazer.  Pair it with a simple black shell, a white blouse, or a black and white print for a simple, elegant look.  For something more casual, try a graphic tee to dress down a bit.  Plus-size?  Try this gored skirt from Kohl’s.

Statement Heels.  If you’re going to keep the rest of the outfit simple, you need something that pops.  A pair of look-at-me heels are just the ticket.  I like the structure of these Bruno Magli pumps, but you could go with a pop of red or a bit of shine from silver foil.  Or go really outside the box (depending on where you’re going) with these Spree printed bow heels.

Printed Tops. There are two printed tops in the set: the Mother of Pearl silver accent shell and the polka-dotted & Other Stories top.  I like the MoP shell with black skinny trouser and a simple heel.  I would wear the dotted top with almost anything.  (Polka dots are really on trend right now, so if you like them, wear them.)  Looking for something perfect for work?  This Emerson Rose blouse in a blue, teal, and black abstract print is it.

A Silky Camisole. For casual dinners, one of my favorite looks is a colored silk cami, distressed denim, a white blazer with the sleeves pushed up, and big, gold earrings.  It’s the ideal outfit for those nights when you want to wear something fun and cool, but the weather is not cooperating.  The purple camisole in the set also comes in a bright yellow.  My color of choice, however, would be a bright fuchsia.

A Snakeskin Bag. The mix of grey and white makes this top handle clutch a great complement to the white blazer.  It’s also perfect for when you need a neutral bag that pairs well with a variety of summer colors.  I also like this soft grey Gigi NY crossbody and this Cole Haan hobo bag.

A V-Neck Sheath Dress. When you pair a blazer with a complementary neckline–in this case, a v-neck dress–the look elongates the body.  This Betsey Johnson dress has a great shape, and the gathers at the waist will give anyone an hourglass figure.  A few other options include this mid-price Catherine Malandrino dress in black and this pale blue cap-sleeve dress from Gilt.  Plus-size?  Try this pretty coral dress for a pop of summer color.

Do you have any strapless bra recommendations for wearing under the Joie cami? Wearing one looks unavoidable but I typically find them soooo uncomfortable.

these posts and two ways please! I miss those. They were and still are great outfit inspiration!

Great inspiration! I love trying to make these outfits with things I already have too. Although I don’t have a white blazer, so I will have to keep my out for one.

I LOVE my white blazer in the summer — my blog post today actually features it! I think its looks so fresh and summery with printed skirts and dresses that have some white in the print. Love your ideas too, Belle!

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
