Item of the Week: Aviator Sunglasses

Mar 22, 2017

aviatorsweek

This post is written in anticipation of all the sunny days ahead.  The calendar may say it’s spring, but in my neck of the woods, it’s still cloudy and raining.  Yet, every day, I pack my sunglasses in my purse, right next to my umbrella, and pray for a few blissful rays.

Aviators are by far my favorite style of sunglasses.  I own these all black Ray-Bans and these matte gold ones.  (I like the matte a little better than the traditional shiny gold.)  If you’re looking for a more affordable pair, these Kenneth Cole frames with pink lenses are fun.  I also like these classic aviators from Urban Outfitters.

Do you have a favorite style of sunglasses?

For ladies with the habit of using sunglasses as headbands (guilty), the Oakley “women’s” aviatorsare a godsend – classic aviator shape, no nosepieces stuck in your hair.

  2. AOK says:

Classic Ray-ban Wayfarers are my go-to. Tortoise with green lenses. Love.

  3. Taylor says:

Do you have any other sunglass recommendation? My fiancé tells me I look like a “sad puppy” in aviators, which is not a look I’m going for!

    • Amber says:

I second the Oakley’s Aviators. I have the “Feedback Polarized” version and LOVE them! I get tons of complements on the lens color, too. (Mine are green.)

    • Amy says:

I can’t wear the typical tear drop aviators (like Ray Bans), but I found that I can wear rounder aviators (like Burberry’s). Otherwise I like Ray Ban’s wayfarers and any of the tortoiseshell plastic frames by Prada.

  4. Molly says:

These are my favorite – I love the muted pink color, especially with my fair skin/hair: https://smile.amazon.com/Polaroid-Sunglasses-Unisex-Adult-PLD6003S-Polarized/dp/B00PA40L4Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1490216185&sr=8-1&keywords=54mm%2Bpolaroid%2Bsunglasses&th=1

I beg you, Belle/ladies, make the switch to polarized sunglasses if you haven’t already – you’ll never go back!! The Polaroid brand (which apparently still exists) has a bunch of cheaper, comfortable, lightweight styles that hold up (have had mine for years) and they’re all polarized.

I use the gold frame super green and reflective lens Ray Ban aviators. It makes my resting b!tch face worse but I LOVE them.
I also got a $6 pair of rectangle-frame SUPER mirrored shades from Forever 21. It’s actually been my favorite this season. (It’s summer everyday where I live so a good pair of shades is a must at all times)

+1 on Polaroid! I have polaroid aviators that I love! It’s a must for living in Florida and driving long distances in the rain.

  6. Betsy says:

I wear gigantic wraparound tortoiseshell sunnies year-round (I’m in a hot & sunny climate.) I have a pair of Prada that several years old in addition to several cheaper pairs. The bigger the better!

My derm advised me not to wear metal-frame glasses as the sun reflects off the metal and can cause damage that won’t harvest itself visibly for years. I’m very fair-skinned with light eyes, so I am trying very hard to avoid any extra rays, especially on my face. IANAD, but that’s what mine told me.

  7. Valerie says:

I’m a fan of wayfarers, but Ray-Bans were too pricey for my budget and I have a bad habit of losing or breaking sunglasses (so no designer brands for me).

I like Urban Outfitters’ oversized sunglasses the best, because they’re durable and most are under-$20 a pair. I bought three separate pairs of their “Emma” glasses, which seem huge but have a chicness to them, similar to the Karen Walker “Super Duper” style but $16 instead of $280.
