1) How to Save CNN–because I’m sick of listening to pundits, and pretending it’s news. (The New York Times)

2) Foundation one shade too dark now that it’s winter? Lighten it up with these Makeup Forever drops.

3) The dizzying student loan game Navient allegedly played, or why I am no longer a customer. (Bloomberg)

4) Need a dress you can just throw on?  This BB Dakota crepe shift comes in five great colors.

5) Why the ongoing joke about women and money isn’t funny anymore. (DailyWorth)

6) Bring some color into your work attire with this violet Ted Baker top or this cobalt fold front top.

7) Finding the woman at the center of the Emmitt Till case–a powerful read. (Vanity Fair)

8) Looking for casual V-day lingerie? I love the scallop lace on this Express bralette or this coral Chantelle bra.

9) A guide to static-proofing your hair.  Where was this when winter started? (ManRepeller)

10) This white puff-cuff dress from Bloomingdale’s is definitely on my wish list.

11) Madeleine Albright reminds us in Facebook rager that she was a refugee. (Jezebel)

The bit on CNN is why I stopped watching it. Vice News Tonight on HBO is great, 30 minutes of the news for the day with no fluff or pundits. If I want to watch during the day I’ll check out BBC.

Also, I may try out those Makeup Forever drops. I hope the white wont leave a cast. At $14 it’s worth a try

    • Belle says:

It’s gotten to the point where every hour is the same people, discussing the same five topics. I want to hear about a diversity of stories from a diversity of regions. And you used to be able to watch HLN, but that’s become just Kardashian updates and travel info.

  2. Addison says:

*too dark, sorry Belle – had to!

  3. Shelley says:

I love the feature at the end of this post where you talk about your favourite show, podcast and thing you can’t live without. I love these little personal touch and also love recommendations- especially about podcasts. I LOVE the Serial, and Somebody knows Something so always looking for new ideas!

  4. Margaret says:

Nooo! That white puff sleeve dress is gorgeous – but it’s almost an exact copy of the dress Melania wore at the RNC.

    • Belle says:

      I still love it though.

    • Niki says:

Shelley – try My Favorite Murder (it’s more comedy, but has interesting murder discussions) and also Sword & Scale (although be aware that he apparently lifts some material from others without credit sometimes). Sword & Scale is more serious and heavier on facts. I like them both but they serve different entertainment purposes for me!

  5. Amy says:

Belle- you are doing an AWESOME job this week! Thanks for such great content. I want to love the puff sleeve dress. I’m definitely feeling that trend, (I have a flair for the dramatic, plus it works great for tall, straight-bodied girls like moi) and I’ve been looking to incorporate it into my work wardrobe… but that particular specimen is just a little too “Melania-at-the-Convention” (and we all know how that ended up) for me! Have you seen one that’s equally dramatic and work-appropriate, but perhaps in a different color??? I sure haven’t! Everything else I’ve seen is off-shoulder or otherwise much more built for fun. Thanks in advance!

    • Belle says:

I think there was another one in black in the “suggested items” when I clicked on it.

    • JD says:

Seriously? Someone loves a dress but doesn’t want to wear it because it looks like something Melania wore? I’m no Trump supporter, but people feeling that way should get over themselves. I think the dress is great then I’m going to wear it no matter who else has something similar. I’m sure Melania owns pencil skirts and pretty blouses too….

    • Niki says:

      Ugh, wrong place, sorry!

  6. Monica T says:

Re 5: If I was the author I think I’d have a more serious conversation with my husband about that kind of narrative. If they have children he is very much passing on that perception of women as unable to handle money. If I was doing something like that to my partner I would want to know, and I have in fact been called out by my husband for making thoughtless comments about me being the people person, and him being antisocial. He didn’t like being pigeon-holed like that or being the butt of a joke for having hostile resting face. After a certain amount of times hearing it, he was sick of it. So I stopped joking about it. The end. If it was something as sexist as what this husband was doing I’m sure that conversation would have been a lot worse.

  7. Kelly says:

Love the new content at the bottom of this post. Your work this week has been refreshing- thanks for the updates!

    • Roons says:

Totally agree. Interesting content, but the fact that the author never calls the husband out leaves me wondering why she wrote it.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
