1) Timeless rules for making tough decisions, and proof that women get less credit for teamwork. (HBR)

2) Ann Taylor is offering both snakeskin and tortoise pumps for spring.  It’s like they read here. *wink*

3) How the most successful people ask questions. (Fast Company)

4) Taking an overnight trip for Valentine’s Day?  This brushstroke-printed weekender from Target is so incredibly cute (and a great gym bag).  This Sole Society faux-leather weekender is a great unisex piece.

5) Is your intern begging for a letter of recommendation?  5 tips for writing a glowing review.  Also, how to get out of writing a letter for someone you don’t want to recommend.  (Levo League; Business Insider)

6) Have you tried Drunk Elephant Skincare?  Their JuJu Bar cleanses the skin without drying.  And if you need a daytime treatment that’s heavy on the vitamin-C, their C-Firma serum is a must.

7) Cheating, and why people who are already winners break the rules. (The Washington Post)

8) I’m on the hunt for black flats.  I’m torn between these Marc Fisher d’Orsay flats and these super comfy Dr. Scholl’s Tenacious flats.

9) How Hillary Clinton and her staff negotiate to get the media coverage that they want. (Gawker)  Also, the truth about Donald Trump and the “p-word.” (Time)

10) Am I actually looking at Zales for jewelry?  Really?  But look how dainty and cute this $69 open rose gold ring is.  And if you want something more substantial, this crossover dome ring is chic.

11) Five business casual mistakes that you don’t know you’re making. (The Everygirl)

12) Need suits?  This pale grey Antonio Melani cross-hatch suit is super chic.  I love the deep indigo color of this T Tahari suit.  And I’m not sure how I feel about this bright purple Evan Piccone suit, but that color is growing on me.

  1. Jennifer D says:

I chuckled at the Everygirl article on the five business casual mistakes. Several people in my office definitely _do not_ make the mistake of letting a dress code kill their style. Because their style is, “I’m dressed to clean out my garage.” It’s gotten better, but ugh, I want to send some of these folks home, or better yet, set them up with a personal shopper at Nordstrom’s.

  2. Jennifer D says:

Although to be fair, I’ve broken the rule of “don’t leave the stitches in your skirt”, which takes the form of forgetting to take the stitches out of every skirt, blazer, and coat I buy, and not realizing it until I’ve worn the item at least five times. #needlittlescissors

  3. Addie says:

I’m pretty sure even Belle would agree that there’s nothing wrong with wearing an animal print shoe in a business casual setting. And removing the stitching in blazers and skirts is a rule for everyone

    • Jenn S. says:

Agreed – the article suggests that a, “…a classy tiger print blouse is fine…” but that shoes should be left at home. I don’t particularly care for much animal prints in my own wardrobe, but a pair of leopard or cheetah print pumps are FAR more tasteful than a, “tiger print blouse.”

  4. Erika says:

Oh, the stitches. That’s a pet peeve of mine. I have to stop myself from approaching strangers in the street and tell them to remove.the.stitches. That, and leaving the labels on the sleeves of suit jackets. *cringe*

    • Anna says:

Labels? Like a sticker? Back in my college days I actually had 0 idea that you were supposed to remove the stitches on jackets. I like to tell myself it’s cuz I grew up in Florida, but really I was just clueless. Now when I see someone with the stitches, I feel so terrible for them! Maybe they’re as blissfully ignorant as I was.

      • Erika says:

It’s more common on men’s suits I think. It’s at the cuff and the purpose of it is for the sales people to be able to quickly identify the brand when the jackets are hanging on the racks in the store. It’s NOT there for the owner to show off that he has an Armani suit or whatever.

    • JJ says:

I’ve actually chased down a woman in NYC to let her know her skirt was stitched. I was with my mom and sister at the time and they both thought I was insane. A second lady heard my comment and pulled a little pair of scissors out of her purse and we got her all fixed up. Turns out she was on her way to her first job interview and she was very grateful!

  5. Meg says:

I can attest to Drunk Elephant’s marula facial oil – SO hydrating, so gentle. My skin loves it.

  6. raq says:

Belle- highly recommend the Dr Scholl’s flats! They are super comfortable for walking. I’d make sure to try them on though because I bought my normal size online and they stretched out a bit.

  7. sahra says:

oooh such a great quote to live by! I love the reading from #3; also-go with the d’orsay flats; they’re always chic!

    XO Sahra
    Que Sera Sahra

  8. One of my favorite Sephora employees raved about the Drunk Elephant vitamin C serum. I think I have a sample somewhere, I’ll have to give it a whirl!

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.
