Morning Line: January 29

Dear Belle,

Can you help me find a sequin dress that doesn’t make me look like a Las Vegas showgirl?  My friend’s anniversary party is a Glitz and Glamour theme.  Where do people get this stuff?

Thanks, I know this isn’t usual for your blog.  Caitlin

That first dress is gorgeous. This sounds to me like a good time to try Rent the Runway.

I actually rented a sequin dress for a holiday party this year and it was fabulous! You can rent from rent the runway online. The process is pretty easy and its affordable ($40-$80 for a dress). I found the quality much better than what I could afford in my ‘purchase’ budget (e.g., a $500 sequin dress looks classier than a $150 dress). I also don’t really have that many opportunities to look like a disco ball…so why fill up the closet, right?

    • AG says:

This is a much better option, especially for something you won’t wear very often like sequins. I bought a simple black sequin mini a few years ago for new years thinking I might wear it out or something. Well, my new years plans changed and that skirt is still in my closet with the tags on. Better to spend $50-100 on a fun dress now, than spend more on something that may look dated by the time you go to wear it the second time.

couldn’t agree more highly endorse rent the runway –

I got a great navy sequin dress from Jessica Simpson of all places. Surprisingly modest (most sequin dresses I found were WAY too short) but still fun!

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
