1) Is feminism the new ‘f-word’? Why some groups think it’s an “alienating term.” (Marie Claire)

2) Sole Society has a fab new weekender with multiple pockets for all your on-the-go storage needs.

3) How to succeed in new situations and master those getting-to-know-you skills. (HBR.com)

4) I bought this Sawyer sweater from J.Crew Factory.  Decent quality for a $35 price.  These suede flats come in seven colors; I love the wine shade.

5) Remember the CEO who upped employee salaries to $70k?  It appears his motivation may have been to distract from a pending lawsuit. (Bloomberg Business)

6) Harry Josh’s Lock Stock and Barrel gift set is the perfect present for the hair-obsessed.  Bobbi Brown has glam girls covered with the ultimate (ultimate) makeup kit.

7) The secret ingredient to a successful career? Internal motivation. (Fast Company)

8) These nude and silver Loeffler Randall pumps are eye-poppingly gorgeous. I also like this black-and-white printed pair, both in a work friendly heel height.

9) Seven rules on tipping for the holiday season. (Real Simple)

10) The Outnet clearance is on.  This Ruby open-back dress is to die for.  I also like this $92 mauve cashmere sweater.

11) Small acts of kindness to improve your work situation. (Levo)

For the next few weeks, I’m replacing the eye candy feature with an under-$50 holiday gift.  Enjoy.

Gift Guide. Two words: Wine growler, for when you need your vino to travel.

I know I’m not in the hair-obsessed category, but. SEVEN hairbrushes?!!

  2. Valerie says:

Re: #11- speaking of the f-word (feminism), even though the Levo article uses gender-neutral language, these all seem like things that workplaces expect women to do, but men aren’t really obligated. I totally support more acts of kindness, but the professional expectations should be equal for both genders.

In some job/fields, too (I’m thinking of professors, lawyers, executives), the “kind things” sometimes backfire: the woman who always brings food, remembers birthdays, and plans events gets labeled nice but not ambitious enough for promotions, because she’s spending more time on socializing than actual work. It’s an awful double standard.

    • Agreed. I’ve stopped doing most things like this, including not helping with holiday decorations recently.

One other point that stuck out to me was remembering others’ birthdays, which I think is still great. But maybe don’t spend time and energy spearheading a work get together or card signing and just giving him/her a card from you.

  3. Denise says:

I already bought 2 of the growlers! How did I not know this existed earlier?

  4. B says:

Tip advice wanted: I have long healthy hair and an easy cut, so I only go to my hair stylist two or maybe three times a year for cuts only, I don’t do color. I go to the same person each time, and tip well. I’ve always wondered if I should give her a holiday tip?

I do give an extra holiday tip to my nail salon folks (who I see probably 18 times per year)…

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.
