Holiday Gift Guide: A Gift Box for the Hostess

Are you attending a party at the home of a friend or work colleague?  Do you know a lady who loves to entertain at home?  Then, you need a gift that is sure to please your hostess.  Here is a tray filled with goodies perfect for your next party.

One. A Chic Tray. Whether your serving cocktails, organizing snacks, or decorating your table, a decorative tray always comes in handy.  This fair-trade Heart of Haiti Papier Tray ($60) comes in a perfectly neutral black and white combination.  I also like these West Elm lacquer trays in a variety of colors.  Or for something under-$25, try this simple wood tray from Threshold.

Two. Decorative Coasters. Pretty and practical, a set of coasters can make a great gift.  I like these ceramic coasters from Nordstrom ($28) and this pink stone coasters from West Elm.  For a personalized gift, try 100 monogrammed coasters.

Three. The Perfect Scent. Pop over to any blogger’s Instagram feed and you’ll spot a selection of Jo Malone, Diptyque, and Nest candles.  A lovely candle is always a nice hostess gift (as long as you choose one with a subtle scent).  I also like to give diffusers like the Jo Malone Lime and Basil one above.

Four. Wine Tags. My friend, Alex, runs a lovely little company called Chez Gagne Letterpress.  Her cheeky, festive wine tags are much better than the bland wine bags that most people use to bring gifted spirits to parties.  She’s offering 20%-off for readers with the code CAPHILLSTYLE20.

Five. Drinkware and Stemware. Some lovely occasion glasses make a nice gift.  I prefer champagne coupes, so I love these affordable gold-rim glasses.  If you like flutes, this set of gold-accented glasses are lovely.

Looking for something to serve cocktails in?  These copper-accented rocks glasses and decanter are so chic.  I would also recommend a round ice cube mold for whisky drinkers.  Love Moscow Mules?  Try a set of solid copper mugs.

Six. A Fun Bottle Opener.  I adore this gemstone opener from Nordstrom ($8).  This bolt-shaped opener and classic copper opener also caught my eye.   For a wine drinker, skip the opener, and get them a wine stopper and pourer to keep their unfinished bottles fresh.

Do you have a favorite hostess gift?  I also like to bring luxury foodstuffs like classic simple syrup (perfect for cocktails) and creamed honey.  Or for a Christmas Eve gathering, a fun treat for the next morning, like these Croissonuts.

I’m normally not a fan of coupes, but oh man, those are pretty.

  2. Laura says:

Where are the coupes from? There doesn’t seem to be a link and WANT!

  3. Michelle says:

I recommend against giving anything scented, as some people are sensitive or allergic to various types of scents (I happen to live with one of them, is the reason I mention it).

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
