I needed a laugh, and this made me laugh.

I was really hoping to get through a ton of ‘Ask Belles’ this week.  I am just too sick.  I’m going to power through as best I can, but this may be a light week.  I’m hoping to feel better soon.  Send good thoughts, and Theraflu.

1) 115 Ways to Scream Status — sometimes it’s about an item’s cost, other times its rarity.  What says ‘status’ to me?  An Hermes leather planner/notepad.

2) Throw this BR haircalf pouch inside this structured Sole Society black satchel and you are set.

3) How not to be a networking leech: tips for seeking professional advice without aggravating your colleagues.

4) A ballerina-style wrap cardigan can be worn to work with a pencil skirt or over a v-neck dress. Try this Anthro cardi or this inexpensive H&M cardigan for the perfect look.  Plus-size?  Try this cardi from City Chic.

5) No, you don’t need to post a Facebook copyright notice in your status.

6) Need to thicken up your eyebrows in a natural way?  You’ve got to try the foam applicator on this Brow Thickener from Sephora.

7) A ‘girlboss’ offers advice on what to do when you have a bad day at work.

8) Ann Taylor has the perfect tortoise shell pumps (and flats), and they are selling out quick!

9) How to set financial goals that stick.

10) I’ve been wearing the same winter coat for four years; I need a new one.  But I can’t decide between this camel coat with a bold red lining or this winter white coat from Reiss.

11) Does Twitter plan to do away with the 140-character limit?

Eye Candy. Elie Saab makes the most gorgeous things.  This black lace, sheer, and sequined top is spectacular.

Haha #7. Interesting suggestions, have a bad day, get some drugs. Listen to some terrible music or go to DISNEYLAND. Practical!

#1 is fascinating, I don’t understand half of it, but crazy what each group uses to identify “in” members.

  2. Jenn S. says:

I hadn’t seen that Sephora brow product yet. I’m on a brow kick right now, so I’ll be adding that to my list of stuff to try.

The Reiss coat is so chic! For me, the winter white would just be tempting fate too much, I couldn’t bring myself to do it. A camel coat like that is classic, though. Between the two I’d go for the camel.

Finally, Elie Saab kills me. Years ago, I saw the most gorgeous wedding gown on Pinterest. Turns out it was an Elie Saab and, therefore, the stuff of dreams rather than reality. 😛

  3. Jennifer D says:

Greetings Belle – Regarding #10, both coats are gorgeous. Given these options, I it looks like you are looking for a dressier vs. casual coat. Since you are going to be in Montana this winter, you might let climate dictate your choice. I purchased a coat with a high collar last winter and loved being buttoned up and warm without as much neck exposure or need to find scarves. I also purchased a white coat (a different one) on a whim wondering if I would really wear it that much. Turned out to be one of my best purchases last year. So, I vote for the Reiss.

    • Crystal says:

Re #10: If this is a purely stylistic decision (as opposed to “staying warm,” “staying clean,” or price), I vote 100% for the Reiss coat. Ann Taylor is fine, but that Reiss coat is GORGEOUS. I want it for me.

  4. Molly says:

If you’re driving a lot in Montana, think about the white coat getting in and out of the car and how dirty cars get in the snow. I feel like the white would be easier on metro than driving. But both are gorgeous!

  5. Rachel W. says:

That white coat is BEAUTIFUL! It’s dressy and unique and seems to fit with what I understand of your aesthetic. I have owned a white winter coat for years that I rotate in and out with whatever other less-dressy coats I have, and a good yearly cleaning has kept it in good shape. A word of caution against a white coat if you ever drink coffee or tea while walking/driving/metro-ing… it never goes well.

  6. Ariane says:

    Feel better!!

  7. pilates princess says:

I have a camel coat shaped like the Reiss coat and a white coat shaped like the AT. I vote for the Reiss based on shape. White is tough for me to to keep clean, but (I’m not sure why) I get the sense that your fastidious and careful about those things, so maybe it won’t be so bad.

  8. Lexi says:

The camel coat is classic, but that white coat would look fabulous on you!

  9. Yael says:

I love both of those coats but the Reiss one wins out for me – the high neck trumps everything else!

I just bought a London Fog trench and am really pleased with the shape, collar, and insulated liner. It won’t work for very cold weather, but I think it’s just right for San Francisco.

    • Stephanie says:

Oooh yay! I just ordered a similar sounding London Fog trench, partly with a trip to SF in December and London in April in mind.

    • JNick says:

I also just bought a London Fog trench and have already received a ton of compliments on it. The bottom button came off after a few wears, but that’s standard to me–I’m ruthless on those poor little guys. Nothing my tailor can’t lock down.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.
