Belle Loves: 12 Chic Boots for Fall

If I have to say sayonara to summer, I’m going to need a little something to comfort me.  And I self-soothe with chic boots.

The most popular way to wear boots is with casual attire.  You can choose flat boots, heeled boots, tall boots or ankle boots.  I also wear high-heeled tall boot to work with tights (so much warmer in a chilly office).  Here are a few pairs in several styles to give your fall wardrobe a boost.

First Row, 1. B.P. Trolley Boot ($99) // 2. Sam Edelman Bond Bootie ($99) // 3. Vince Camuto Lace Up Sandal-Bootie ($159) // 4. Calvin Klein Charmaine Wedge-Boot ($149)

Second Row, 5. French Connection Yulia Boot ($125) // 6. Edelman Penny Boot ($149) // 7. Frye Molly Boot ($398) // 8. Edelman Josephine Tall Boot ($275)

Third Row, 9. Me Too Mirage Boot ($89) // 10. Calvin Klein Keana Boot ($295) // 11. Via Spiga Velma Boot ($450) // 12. Nine West Vintage Boot ($189)

I tried to incorporate some different styles into my choices.  About the only one I missed was an over-the-knee boot, which are still very popular this season (though not as trendy as last fall).  I like the look of this affordable Cleo flat boot.

I wanted to pull some wide-calf and narrow-calf styles, but I would just be guessing about what works.  And you never want to guess with shoes.  So if you ladies have suggestions for great boots in specialty widths or lengths (for those size 5 and size 10+ ladies), please leave them in the comments.

Thanks for this post! I’ve been looking at booties for the fall. Do you have any recommendations for booties with lower heels? I love the look of the low-heel Kate Spade Taley Booties (https://www.katespade.com/taley-boots/888445389030,en_US,pd.html) but don’t know if I can justify the $350 price tag…

  2. Brandi says:

I have big, muscular calves, so it’s hard to find boots. I picked these up last year after a long search (seriously, since when is a 15″ circumference “wide calf”?), and they’re pretty fantastic.

    • S says:

I second this suggestion for thick calves! I like my Bandalinos as well. I noticed you don’t have a Chelsea boot on the list. Those are very “in” this season too.

  3. Anna says:

Minor typo, but it looks like the CaLvin Klein wedge booties are called Charlaine, not Charmaine. Only discovered this cuz I had to get around the dumb House website blocker. So in case anyone else has to do the same, that’s the term to search for.

  4. Annie says:

Belle – did you happen to find any great flat boots (or ones with just a small stacked heel like the middle tall ones?)? I live in New York and need these kinds of boots to wear with jeans when I don’t wear the tall boots with skinny jeans.

  5. B says:

Hard-to-fit calf here: I’ve been an equestrian all my life, and wide calf can mean 14.5″ in one brand and 17.5″ in another. Really, in a world where clothes sizes range from 000-32 and beyond, does “narrow” “regular” and “wide” really cut it anymore? I gave up guessing calf sizes and fit long, long ago and went with a brand that actually sizes by measurements.

So, when I was having the same problems finding street/fashion boots, I was pumped when I a friend recommended Duo boots (apparently now called Ted and Muffy) – calf width measured by centimeters. I own two pairs and they are wonderful. They’re mid-to-higher priced but wear wonderfully and my cobbler seems to think they are of good quality.

  6. Frye boots are very well made and last a long LONG time.

  7. LS says:

If you need a narrow calf, Aquatalia is the best. They are so expensive but so worth it. They are extremely comfortable, insulated, and the best part – waterproof.

  8. J says:

Belle-do you have any recommendations for boots to wear to the office? I just started a new job in a “business casual” environment and mostly plan to wear dresses and tights, but I’m not sure what boots are business casual.

    Thanks!

  9. Stephanie says:

I love my tall Frye boots, but I have to say I think I’m done with them, style wise. I may change my mind when it’s colder. But they look dated to me now.

  10. Tricia says:

I have lupus and have wide ankles. My calves are 14 inches and have ordered the widest calf I can find and still can’t get it to zip over my ankles. I need a really stretchy boots. I would be so grateful for any suggestions. We had a flood [38 inches of water in our house] and lost all my shoes and boots.

  11. Steph says:

For narrow calves (14″ and smaller), I’ve had good luck with La Canadienne. I have a leather pair and a suede pair; both have withstood the DC winter weather over several seasons thanks to whatever magical finishing the brand does to weatherproof their boots.

I, too, have problem feet and I find them comfortable to walk around in all day. I also got some high-heeled custom inserts via my podiatrist that I can stick in whatever shoes I’m wearing and it is life changing.

The Mondays: July 22, 2024

The Crowdstrike/Microsoft Meltdown forced me to take a few days off this weekend. No laptop. No billable hours. So we packed Sloane up for a visit to a local llama farm, stopped by the pool, went for coffee, etc. Few things are as funny as watching a 23-month old feed carrots to a ravenous rescue […]
