Dear Belle,
I work for a denim broker, so I wear jeans to work every day. My usual uniform is a graphic tee with blazer. I need to branch out. Ideas for what to wear on top?
*Jeans for Days*
Not knowing what to wear with jeans is a common problem. Especially for someone like myself who wears dresses all the time. A casual day rolls around and I’m like, “Boy, I have all these great jeans and NO tops.” So it was great to have a reason to start thinking about blouse and topper combinations.
Equipment Berry Button-Up ($50, Rent the Runway) // Equipment Sloane Crewneck ($268) // Blue Bijoux Mint Necklace ($32)
A button-up blouse under a crewneck or v-neck sweater can be jazzed up by wearing the necklace under the collar. For this outfit, I chose the bright, modern combination of mint and red. It’s a little unexpected. I also like the berry print on this blouse for a bit of whimsy.
Looking for a necklace that looks good under the collar? I love this layered Banana Republic collar for some sparkly drama. They also make a simpler single strand version. Also, this gold Gemma Simone necklace has a cool shape for just $20.
Want some color and texture? This Montego Bib has colored threads with a metal shield. This seaglass bib from Anthropologie has the most beautiful soft green color.
Joseph Carly Silk Blouse ($415) // Joie Ligiere Blouse ($348) // Lauren Twisted Hoops ($34)
Attention 90s Girls: Vests are back. This Joie Ligiere cowl neck vest is super chic. For something more affordable, this Halogen vest is a tuxedo-style throwback. Some of the vest makers are calling them ‘sleeveless jackets’ to cut back on the Party of Five/Felicity stigma. This belted black one from River Island shows some promise.
I chose the silk blouse for the contrast in textures between the silky sleeves and the wool topper. For something more affordable, this MNG by Mango blouse is $25. Plus-size? Try this Alice + You blouse.
These are just a couple of thoughts. Any topper combinations that you love to wear with jeans?
Great post. I am in a casual environment too, but like to look professional. My uniform is “jacket and jeans”, but I love more ideas.
How do you feel about dusters/long sweaters/long vests. Are they structured enough for a professional look?
And what shoes? I’m a Texan, so boots are my go too. But, it’s hot. And heels seem a bit too much sometimes.
Love the blog.
That vest is incredible. Of course the only vest I like is $350.
