Did a lot of people really have 32.5 inch waists back in the day? I am about 5.2 and didn’t even weight 100 lbs until some point in law school and I don’t think I ever had a 23.5 in waist!
And that being a size 8 then meant some people had even smaller!! That blows my mind. Are people not just overall more overweight but also just generally larger-framed now?
It’s the undergarments. They weren’t corsets, but they were close.
Girdles, granddaughters of the corset. And maybe some left over malnutrition from the Depression and war years?
While I appreciate the ridiculousness of vanity sizing, I also appreciate the inconsistency of sizing between brands. If every manufacturer made clothing to the exact same standards about 80% of us would never find anything that fit. At least now I know a specific brand that suits my body type.
1. I always use silence as a negotiation tactic. It’s nice to see them squirm and throw out the $$$$ first so that you can counter. If I have to give a number first and they refuse to help, I tack on a 50% surcharge to cover all my bases and set a benchmark of expectations.
2. I bought these gorgeous LR sandal wedges from Club Monaco and LOVE THEM. Very nice brand.
3. If men were forced to take off 6 months and women 6 months, it’d be better for everyone all around. It’s not just the leave, it is that fathers have to also understand and see how hard it is to take care of a child day in and day out. It isn’t easy, it is WORK and it is full-time, 24/7 with no breaks or help.
They’d be more compassionate to their partners. My partner did that for 10 months while I went back to work and he is a stronger father because of it.
