1) How to stop yourself from overscheduling.

2) Looking for end-of-summer pumps to spice up your wardrobe?  These Paddysday pumps from Nine West are great, as are these embroidered heels in black and white.

3) ‘The Leery Beginner’s Guide to Yoga’ explains why everyone should try yoga for mental and physical health.  Plus, they have cool mats.

4) Banana Republic’s new arrivals are smoking. I jumped on these drapey cargo pants (yeah, I said it) and this layered tweed shift dress.

5) 25 powerful women discuss what it’s like to be in charge.

6) butter London has jumped into the makeup game with ‘Smoke Stick’, a simple product that promises the perfect smokey-eye look and crease-free wear.

7) Stylecaster shows you the first photos 14 popular bloggers posted to Instagram and shows you their recent pics.

8) This vegan-suede bomber jacket from Anthropologie is absolutely to die for.  I also like their hooded, jersey jacket.

9) Just in time for the dog days of summer, Wired asks why men and women battle over the office thermostat.

10) Tennis, anyone? If this is the attire, why not?

I had the opposite reaction to the Banana Republic new arrivals (and the overhaul in general, this spring and summer). Except for a handful of tops, not much struck me as business-casual-law-firm appropriate. Am I missing something? I’ve mostly moved on to Ann Taylor or reverted back to The Limited for tall work apparel. Even their “office hours” section is hilarious: suit shorts, skinny faux leather ankle pants and wide-leg pants, skin-tight bold stripe jersey skirt, etc.) I kind of feel like BR abandoned its previous target market of younger professional women, and I can’t quite figure out who their new target is. The clothes are all much more casual, but at the same price point. I don’t need an endless wardrobe of “date night” and weekend clothes that I only actually wear a couple times per week, so it seems like they’ve reduced their relevance to professional women, but the price point is low enough that they’d miss the independently wealthy who don’t have to work, and is high enough that they’d price out most lower-paying casual work atmospheres. What am I missing?

Wow, after viewing that I feel like I’ve been left behind on the fashion highway. I’ve noticed this at other retailers as well, I just don’t understand what they’re going for. A $130 green jumpsuit? Where am I going to see someone wearing this?

Perhaps the message from BR is this: You are getting older, but we our age demographic is staying the same, and this is what their demographic wants now? Or maybe they’ll have a press conference in Spring and talk about the fashion misses of their fall line, haha. Who knows anymore.

“Men and weapon” battling over the thermostat… Interesting slip 🙂

  3. GoGoGo says:

    Cargo pockets! Yes!

Cargo pockets were the best. I have been awaiting their comeback so long.

If they have doubters, just wait til the doubters put their smartphones in them. Freedom.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
