Belle’s Picks for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Jul 13, 2015

Ah, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, the most glorious shopping event of the year.  If you’re a Nordstrom card holder, you can start shopping now.  If not, bookmark this post and come back when the sale opens to the general public.

The sale this year was a bit hot and cold for me.  I thought the shoes were not as good as usual.  The jewelry in the upper price points was stellar, but the mid-price jewelry wasn’t as good.  But even if it isn’t the best Anniversary Sale I’ve ever seen, there are still many lovely things at good prices.  Here are my early picks for the best of the sale.

Halogen Seam Pencil Dress ($65.90, also in petite)

Dress. There are some really lovely work dresses in this year’s selection.  This Halogen dress comes in four fabulous colors; I like the green best.  This Karen Kane faux-wrap has an elbow-length sleeve that’s great for casual work days.

Tahari is a great brand, and this grey-melange structured sheath (also in petite) is perfect for the office.  I also love the graphic print on this dress, which would look stunning with a white blazer.

Want something you can wear today (as opposed to this fall)?  This Julia Jordan eyelet sheath is a great option.

Plus-size?  This pleated dress from Halogen is lovely, and I really like this red Eliza J dress.

Plain High/Low V-Neck Blouse ($44.90)

Tops and Sweaters.  I usually don’t do the high/low thing, but I loved the look of this blouse so much, I decided not to care.  It comes in five colors, and I ordered the soft pink.

There are a ton (a ton) of tie-neck blouses this year.  You know, I love a tie-neck, but these blouses are not created equal.  This Classiques Entier blouse is the best one on offer.  I also like this Bailey 44 blouse in forest green.

Love cardigans?  This v-neck Halogen cardi is a great basic (also in petite).  I adore this floral embroidered sweater from the affordable Chelsea28 Line.  And if you like the look of a slouchy sweater, this Topshop funnel-neck sweater is a great option.

Plus-size?  This Eileen Fisher tunic is lovely.  I also like this Halogen tie-neck blouse.

Halogen Seamed Pencil Skirt ($45.90)

Skirts and Pants. I purchased this skirt in two colors last year, and quickly decided that I wish I owned all the colors.  The fabric has a great weight and feel to it.  It hangs really beautifully.  And it’s really comfortable.  If you’re not feeling the pencil skirt, try this a-line skirt from Classiques Entier.

These NYDJ basic trousers seem like they would be really flattering.  I also like the look of these casual Vince boyfriend trousers.  I also wouldn’t miss out on Paige jeans at $60 0ff retail.

Kiehl’s Creme de Corps ($75)

Miscellaneous.  I buy lotion once a year.  This enormous bottle from Kiehl’s is an amazing bargain because if you bought this volume in the smaller sizes it would cost $107 more.  Also on the beauty side, this wonderful MAC palette perfect for day-to-night makeup looks.

Other assorted items from the sale that I loved?  My Zella Live-In Leggings (also in plus).

I also loved this black Michael Kors watch and it’s grey and rose gold cousin.  This wide cuff and these criss-cross hoop earrings also caught my eye.

Belle, I am SO bummed about the Shimera tanks that have been replaced by an allegedly equivalent “Nordstrom” brand. The sales women swore up and down that the new ones are the exact same thing, but I bought both the skinny and wide strap and they definitely are not. I feel like they are sized differently, the material is thinner, and they may not be as long. Have you tried these new ones yet?

I’m not sure if anyone’s addressed it yet, but at least on my House computer, all these links are getting flagged and won’t let me access them. I don’t know if there’s another system you can use, but for some reason it’s definitely not getting through our system.

    • Anna says:

Yep, same thing happens to me. I think it’s only the links that got through shopstyle. So annoying…even though I ‘spose I should be doing something more productive instead…

You recommended a green tie-neck blouse from a brand I had never heard of like two years ago. You paired it with a sort of limey green pencil skirt from J. Crew. I about died because the shirt was like $400. Now I’m buying htis one. Hooray!

The Find: An Affordable Work Dress

This winter was particularly hard on my psyche, on my self-esteem, and on my waistline. As we move into spring, I need to make a plan for how I am going to dress this additional weight over the months of work that it will likely take to shed it. So I was so glad to […]
