The Workday Reading: June 18, 2015

It’s a short day today thanks to a looming trial.  Back tomorrow with a reader-requested Two Ways on how to style a basic maxi-dress for the weekend.

***

1) The Treasury Dept. announced that a woman will replace Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill, though they have yet to decide which woman.  I’m all in on Eleanor Roosevelt.

2) Yellow is so hot right now.  This Elliott Lucca satchel is the perfect bright bag.  And this $17 clutch from Dorothy Perkins would be smashing with a white dress.

3) Required Reading for Politicos: A pollster’s guide to reporting on polls.

4) This Giles & Brother Skinny X Knot Ring is wonderful.

5) Angelina Jolie is using her platform to campaign against sexual violence.  But the double standard in some of the media coverage is extremely disheartening.

6) Colored pencil skirts can spice up a summer work wardrobe.  Antonio Melani has a gorgeous deep pink skirt, and this emerald skirt from Nipon is lovely.  Plus-size? Try this lavender Nine West skirt.

7) The Coveteur discusses “The Truth About Beauty Sleep.”

8) I need a new yoga mat, and this Yeti mat with soft ombre pastels and a geometric print is at the top of the list.

9) The Every Girl has some tips on perfecting your elevator pitch.

10) Neiman Marcus is having an amazing sale.  This pink Nippon business suit has me rethinking my position on dress suits.  This Carmen Marc Valvo combo set is also a lot of fun (and the individual pieces are very versatile).

Belle, if you’re getting serious about yoga I highly recommend taking a look at the Lululemon “the mat” or the Manduka PRO. My lulu mat still wears and feels like new after a year. I sweat a lot in vinyasa and add a “the towel” or yogitoes, but otherwise I use the mat as-is and love it.

  2. Robin R says:

I agree with B. I have both the lulu mat and the Manduka PRO. I use the lulu mat for a yoga sculpt class (yoga with weights) about 3 times a week and the manduka PRO mat for more traditional yoga. I usually use the yogitoes with my Manduka but do not find it necessary at all with the lulu mat, despite massive sweating. The only downside of the lulu mat is the initial smell when you first buy it – leave it out on your porch to air out before use.

  3. Casey says:

On yoga mats, I recommend the Kiss the Sky yoga mats. The owner/designer is a local DC teacher, and had lots of students test them out during the prototype phase. They are made in America and sustainable (made from 100% recycled rubber), which is neat. But they are also grippy as hell and amazing. Absolutely the best mat I’ve ever used.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
