Top Left, Clare Cardigan ($30) // Bar III Midi Skirt ($60) // M.Gemi Viale Flats ($228) // Furla Elena Satchel ($199)

The a-line skirt and cardigan combination is a classic.  It’s a fun look for related work days, for religious services, or for brunch with family.

I like the mix of pale pink and navy for summer.  If the fuller skirt isn’t for you, try this Talbot’s cotton pencil skirt in shell pink.

A number of readers have endorsed the Factory Clare cardigan.  Personally, I recommend the Land’s End cardigans; they’re inexpensive and well-made.  Need a v-neck?  Land’s End has you covered.

To balance the pale pink skirt, I like this darker pink satchel.  If you want a pink bag for less than $75, try this Merona satchel.  I also like the mesh details on these M.Gemi flats; it gives them a unique flair.  If you need a less expensive tan shoe, I like these Sam Edelman slingbacks.

Right, AG Distressed Jeans ($225) // Mango Saffiano Tote ($79) // LOFT Geo-print Sandals ($59) // Gold Bold Cuff ($58)

I’m still loving my distressed jeans.  They’re a fun alternative to basic denim.  This pair from AG are great, but if you need something less-expensive, try these discounted Hudson jeans or these Old Navy Rockstar jeans.  Plus-size? These jeans from Lane Bryant are a good choice.

These geo-print sandals from LOFT are really cute.  They’re also substantial enough to wear to work (if you’re allowed to wear open toe shoes).  If you want a true flat in black and white, try these Kenneth Cole flats.

I added the red bag for a bit of punch.  Something bold to add to the look.  And I finished it off with a cool geo cuff.  Looking for a cheaper bracelet?  This $25 Sole Society cuff is a good buy.

Bottom Left, Boden Print Skirt ($97) // Charles David Navy Pump ($146) // Flying Lizard Hoop Earrings ($95) // Parantesi Dome Satchel ($109)

To put a little pop in your work wardrobe, try a printed skirt.  It takes a basic and makes it special.  I love this NYDJ pencil in a navy print.  Plus-size?  Try this simple dotted pencil skirt.

A simple tan satchel is a great piece to have for summer.  The dome shape of this Parantesi satchel is a chic basic.  I also like the details on this Rebecca Minkoff Perry satchel.

Navy pumps are making a comeback.  I like the shape of these heels with a dramatic front vamp.  For something under-$50, these Nine West pumps are a good basic.

I also added these hoop earrings for a bit of fun.  If you’re looking for something more traditional, these DvF teardrop earrings are a versatile choice.

Belle – how would you wear the shirt with the cardigan – buttoned-up or open? Would you tuck or leave un-tucked into the jeans?
    Thanks! Love the blog.

I actually ordered that blouse several weeks back from The Outnet– in periwinkle, a perfectly dreamy hue. The fit, however, was extremely boxy and– on my frame– unflattering. No darts, no seaming to accentuate a feminine frame. I’d recommend tucking in most cases.

Belle – are you a “Regular” size at Land’s End? I’m thinking of ordering a cardigan or two, but am not sure of their sizing. Thanks!!

The M.Gemi “Viale” flats seem to be sold out in both the nude and the black (or else aren’t appearing on their website anymore). Which is too bad, because I’ve had my eye on them for a while and was about to take the plunge and invest. I may email their customer service to ask if they’ll be back in stock sometime.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
