BPGP: Tree Hut Salt Soak

Jun 4, 2015

Snip20150604_5I forgot how brutal walking all day in high heels and structured flats can be.  After a decade in D.C., my feet were broken in, adjusted to the torture of walking on marble floors and cobblestones all-day.  But now, after just a year of luxuriously driving to and fro, my feet can no longer take a licking and keep on ticking.

Growing up, my Nana used salt soaks to soothe her feet.  She worked in a church kitchen, so her feet were always tired.  And I suppose, I developed the notion that epsom salts were something for old people.

Boy, was I wrong.

I spotted the Tree Hut Fig & Olive Epsom Salt ($7) while I was searching for a salt body scrub.  Given the mild burning sensation in my heels, I thought it might be worth a try.  I’m not sure that I buy the whole “detoxifying” thing, but I they are certainly soothing.  I add a few spoonfuls to my bathtub and then give my feet a bit of a rest.

The salts are mixed with shea butter, so in addition to their reviving effects, they soften the skin as well.  An excellent way to keep your feet in sandal shape this summer.

I don’t care for the smell of this particular soak, so I would recommend the Coconut Lime Salts instead.  You can also find inexpensive bags of epsom salt at the drugstore, usually on the bottom shelf.  If you dislike the medicinal smell, you can add a few drops of essential oil.  I’m partial to be a bit of vanilla with a bit of orange.

Thanks for the recommendation! Salt soaks are important for us runners. The Dr. Teals salt soaks available at the drug stores smell lovely, too.

Yes! I stole my horse’s epsom salts the first time I gave myself a stone bruise running and haven’t given them back yet (although I have had to replenish many times). I like the idea of buying the basic ones and adding essential oils to it!

I add dried lavender and/or lavender oil to plain old epsom salts. I like the little bits of lavender because it makes me feel like i’m in a fancy spa instead of sitting in my kitchen with my feet in a bucket.

Good recommendation! I haven’t tried this but I love Tree Hut – they make this body scrub I swear by for a pre-fake-tan-exfoliation: https://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=202350&catid=182914&aid=338666&aparam=202350&kpid=202350&CAWELAID=120142990000010758&CAGPSPN=pla&kpid=202350

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
