Don’t Leaf Me Hanging Dress ($60)
I have a love/hate relationship with Modcloth. Sometimes their site features stylish, affordable pieces that make me wonder why I don’t shop there more often. Sometimes they feature crazy, ugly items that make me think that I’m being punked. But if you’re prepared to sift through a site that is an odd mix of Portlandia-chic and just plain chic, your patience may be rewarded.
This green dress adds a pop of color to your summer work attire. This short-sleeve, red dress with a slash v-neckline is also worth a look. I also like this versatile, black ‘Day to Play’ dress (also in plus-size).
Chilly office? This oatmeal zip up cardigan would make a great piece to keep at your desk for fighting the cold. For something pretty, this black and ivory cardigan is a real charmer (limited sizes, but they re-order based on feedback).
Lastly, these pale pink flats with an open-toe and unique shape are basically the most feminine shoe I have ever seen.
I recently had a really nice experience with Modcloth’s return/exchange process. I ordered a dress that was supposed to be “true to size” but wouldn’t zip up. I sent it back for an exchange but discovered that the size I wanted had sold out. I looked around and found out that a different color that I liked was still in stock in my size, so I contacted them through their online chat system, and the representative set it up so that as soon as my return was processed, they sent me out a replacement of the different color, and even upgraded to rush shipping for free. I’ve been pretty happy with their customer service, and I like that I can get some attractive staples as well as quirky pieces in the same place.
Modcloth definitely takes retro too far in my opinion, but I just purchased a one-piece swimsuit from them and I’m obsessed. I think their shoe selection is also pretty stellar (and tends to be more affordable!)
