Work Wednesdays: Styling White Blazers

Blazer: Topshop Double Collar Jacket ($95)

Upper Left, J.Crew Pencil Skirt ($148) // Weekend Warrior Tee ($13) // Milly Piper Satchel ($325) // Nine West Flora Sandal ($89)

Creative. Women in the fields of PR, advertising, and marketing can usually funk up their work wardrobe a little.  Frankly, I’m jealous.

For this outfit, I mixed professional separates–a white blazer and grey pencil–with a cool sandal and a blush-colored satchel.  It’s modern, playful, and pulled together.

If you like the graphic tees but feel silly paying a lot for one, Target has a great selection.  I love this ‘Celfie’ tee, and this city tee.  Not feeling the sandals?  These mesh booties are a great option.

Right, Modern Moxie Dress ($55) // Ivanka Trump Slingbacks ($135) // Lodis Audrey Briefcase ($318) // DvF Martine Drops ($48)

Professional. How much do you love this dress?  And can you believe it’s only $55?

I love a timeless mix of black and white.  It’s a color combination anyone can wear.  I like it with red for pop, but there are other ways to mix it.

If you’re looking for something softer, try this black-and-white floral print sheath with a yellow belt for contrast.  It’s a bit more playful, even in a stark palette.

Looking for a similar dress in plus-size?  This City Chic Mono dress is actually pretty close.

Bottom Left, Kors Abstract Blouse ($144) // Paige Transcend Jeans ($179) // Janna Conner Lapis Studs ($90) // Edelman Noah Flat ($55)

Casual. Yellow is hot for spring and summer.  I love this printed blouse with a hint of sheer.  It looks great with jeans, white trousers, or navy separates.

Gold flats are my go-to style for casual wear.  This Noah flat is a great basic.  I also like these cute metallic loafers from BP.

I love lapis jewelry.  The deep color of the stone with tiny flecks of gold, so chic.  This $50 lapis pendant from Melene Kent is phenomenal.

I LOVE the Moxie dress, but I’m unsure about Modcloth (skeptical of online-only retailers). How is their sizing and quality?

  2. Joanna says:

wow, love that you are showing how to dress for work in a non DC office! great picks

  3. Monica says:

Wow, love these looks! I work in the tech industry in Southern California and you can’t get much more creative and/or casual as far as dress code goes.

I love the t-shirt and pencil skirt especially, how would you style it? Tucked or untucked? I’m always lost on that part.

  4. Kate says:

You always hear about not mixing different blacks. I’m wondering if mixing two white pieces that aren’t part of the same suit would be a similar concern?

  5. Danielle says:

Just noticed that the Paige jeans are available on Amazon in special sizes for $56.

Hi Belle! May I ask why you’re affiliate linking to a J. Crew skirt when you just wrote two posts about the poor quality of J. Crew’s clothing?

    • Belle says:

It may not be as good as it used to be, or as it should be for the price, but the Super 120s suit line and Italian wool line are still better than most suiting in the mid-price range. BR’s are even worse quality, and I’ve never warmed up to Ann Taylor’s suiting. I wish Halogen or Boden had had a grey skirt, but I didn’t see one. If you have another one to recommend, by all means. One of the reasons I’m so vocal about J.Crew’s decline is because the options for professional women are so limited.

LOVE the inclusion of a creative outfit. It’s super cute and professional! Maybe a bit much for everyday wear, but spot-on for a client meeting. Thanks for including this, Belle!

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
