Ask Belle: Belle’s Favorite Lip Gloss

Mar 30, 2015

Hi Belle,

Cleaning out my purse today, I tossed all of my gummed-up lip glosses.  I want to replace all of the cheap ones with one or two beauty counter lip colors.  Do you have a favorite gloss or glosses?

I’d love some help! Em

I mostly wear sheer lip colors like Sugar’s Plum Lip Treatment.  But I do own two lip glosses that I highly recommend.

Trish McEvoy Beauty Booster Gloss ($25)

Trish McEvoy’s Beauty Booster is a gloss and treatment in one.  It’s not sticky, which I love, and it moisturizes my lips.  I also prefer the tube to the brush, because I have a little trouble keeping the brushes lint free.

In case you’re wondering, I use the middle shade, brightening pink.  It gives lips a hue that is basically a pinky, enhanced version of your natural lip color.

M.A.C. Sized-to-Go Lip Glass ($10)

I don’t wear a lot of lip gloss, so being able to buy a travel-sized one for a good price is perfect for me.  I’m not crazy about the M.A.C. formulation, as it’s a little stickier than I like, but I LOVE this color.  It’s called Love Child.  It looks dark raisin in the photo, but it’s a nice dark rose with a bit of shimmer.

If you have a favorite gloss, leave it in the comments!

My favourites are by Buxom (minty so that they tingle and come in a huge range of colours and finishes), and by Clarins (much less sticky, very smooth on the lips and vanilla scented)! Generally if you don’t like the look of too much lipgloss then apply and blot with a tissue just once so that the shine is pared down.

    • Molly says:

Seconded – Buxom Full-On Lip Cream in Mudslide is the perfect better-than-neutral. Not too sticky, can layer if you want real shine, or can wear less for a natural look.

      • Sunny says:

Third for Buxom! Pale Irish girl here with dark hair/eyes – Sophia or Dolly are good neutrals for work!(Although I probably own a good dozen other shades. I pick up the gift sets whenever they come out!)

  2. H says:

I have long hair and hate sticky lip gloss – I find the Chanel ones to be less sticky than most. I like No. 3, Glossimer, for a pretty sheer pink that looks great on its own or over lipstick.

  3. B says:

Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie. The regular is more sheer and makes your lips tingle. The buttercreams have nice shades and are more opaque but taste awful. The MAC Lovechild color mentioned in the post might be my favorite of all time. They make a great gloss and that shade is really flattering.

  4. SNP says:

YSL Rouge Pur Couture! some of their colors in the varying lines are very similar but watch for the differences in sparkle. I have a couple shades and love them both and stay on my lips through long talky meetings. It’s a bit pricey for the small tube but it’s good til the last drop.

  5. liz says:

I love Nars glosses – a fun one for summer is Easy Lover, a flattering bright pink.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
