Splurge or Save: Clarifying Body Wash

With warm weather on the horizon, I’m thinking about how to banish the unsightly blemishes from my shoulders and chest.  Being self-conscious about acne makes looking your summer best a challenge.

I love Glytone’s body acne treatment spray.  But once a breakout gets going, it takes at least a week before the spray provides relief.  To stay ahead of the curve, I like to augment with an acne-fighting body wash.

Typically, I use Glytone’s Exfoliating Body Wash ($24).  The wash contains 8.8% glycol acid, so it’s powerful.  It can be used to clear acne or just to smooth rough elbows, ankles, and knees.  But keeping myself in pharmaceutical-grade body wash can be expensive.

I spotted this Dial Acne Control Body Wash ($7) on the bottom shelf at the pharmacy.  I was skeptical of the claim that it could clear up a breakout in three days.  Imagine my surprise when just a few days later, my skin is noticeably clearer.

The one downside to the Dial wash is that it is drying, but so is the Glytone.  To moisturize without clogging pores, I add Yes to Tomatoes balancing moisturizer.

Verdict. Save, save, save.  The Dial wash is just as good (maybe a bit better than) the Glytone.  And at one-third the price, why spend more?

My face is in the midst of a “Oh-my-gawwwd let’s be thirteen again!!!!” freak out and I need a different acne wash than the one I’m using. Off to find some Dial!!

Phisoderm is a bit hard to find in stores these days, but I just checked and Amazon still has it (https://amzn.to/1NdIQ9E). My mom used it for years until she couldn’t get it in the stores and still sings its praises. It’s gentle enough to use on your face, too, if you prefer fewer items in your bathroom. The packaging has changed since I saw it in stores last, but I have no reason to believe the formula has. It is 2oz and $2 less, but might be worth a shot too.

This is actually really good to know. I will definitely be trying this out. It is hard to find something in the drugstore that does not have micro beads and is clarifying.

Thanks for posting this. I’ve been using a Neutrogena body scrub for years, but it’s not great. Will give Dial a try.

  5. I recently found a face wash at a drugstore that works really well and at roughly 7 bucks per bottle doesn’t break the bank. I just double it as face and body wash.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
