Work Wednesday: Styling Grey Trousers

I don’t wear trousers often, but I love a sleek grey pair.  They’re an all-season alternative to black pants.  The Hutton trouser from J.Crew is the pair I own.  They’re not lined, but they fit well with a nice drape.

I also like this Classiques Entier pair, and for something under-$100, this Halogen straight-leg pair.  Plus-size?  These Anne Klein trousers are a good option.

Upper Left: H&M Bow Blouse ($29) // Topshop Double Collar Jacket ($95) // Kenneth Cole Hoops ($26) // Target Drawstring Bag ($50)

I like the classic look of white and grey together.  I especially like it with a pop of bright color.  It’s an outfit that works in any season, for most work occasions.

I chose the hoops and the more relaxed tote to give the outfit a little fun.  If you want something more staid, I would recommend pearl studs and a sleek red briefcase.

As for the rest of the look, I would stick with a grey, pointed-toe pump.  I like this ankle-strap pair with a bit of flair.  I’d also style my hair in a soft braided updo, and indulge in a sheer red lip.

Check out the rest of the items after the break.

Right: Iris & Ink Navy Blouse ($145) // Aldo Emorilis Bag ($45) // Moma Circular Cuff ($25) // French Connection Elvia Pump ($54)

Navy and grey is a great combination.  It’s easy, crisp, and sophisticated.  You could add a navy blazer or a grey suit jacket to the outfit to pump it up, or a navy printed scarf for casual Friday.

I added the teal bag for variety, and the cuff bracelet for a bit of shine.  I usually ruche or roll the sleeves when I wear these kinds of blouses.  It allows me to wear a bold bracelet.

For the hair, I’d wear it down.  I’d also pick a soft berry lip; Clinique black honey is my go-to color.

Bottom Left: H&M Peplum Top ($30) // KJL Bead Necklace ($53) // Michael Kors Selma Satchel ($298)

I’m currently obsessed with shades of green.  Teal is a favorite, so I decided to jazz it up by mixing in aqua and berry hues.  Because why not indulge in lots of spring color?

If you’re not feeling this color palette.  May I suggest wearing the teal top with a pale pink necklace and a grey satchel?

For the hair, I would go with a curly side ponytail.  It gives the outfit some playfulness.  And, of course, I would paint my nails to match my purse with a little Essie Sure Shot.

Cute ideas! I tend to just do the boring oxford shirt/gray pants things and need to branch out.

Also, yay! Belle is back! First that JCrew post and now this. I know law school can be made of epic suck and I’m so glad to be seeing more writing here on the blog.

I also appreciate this post. These are my favorite kind of posts…I like seeing several outfit options mixed in different ways.

I have missed your x item 2/3/4 ways! enjoyed this one!

  4. I really benefit from your blog. I am just beginning in politics as an intern and a state rep candidate here in New Hampshire. I love wearing suits. I want to try the grey slacks navy blazer thing, but don’t want to get mistaken for a page kid at the capitol. I guess its acceptable as an intern though. Great posts. Keep it up.

The Find: A Versatile Sweater Jacket

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
