Ask Belle: Fun, Printed Flats

Feb 12, 2015

Hi Belle,

I am hoping you can help me find an elusive shoe. I am looking for a durable, comfortable, affordable ballet flat in a fun pattern/color. I was ready to pull the trigger on some Tieks but couldn’t do it when the reviews I was reading were running about 60/40 (I’m still taking insight on these if you have any).

I can find black, metallic, and cognac flats all day long. What I really want are some fun ones for spring. Less than $100 please.

Thanks! Kayla

Tieks was kind enough to offer me a discount a pair of flats to try.  I ordered a gold pair, tried them, didn’t really like them, and sent them back.  I’ve never been a big fan of flats with an elastic vamp; I also didn’t like the Tiffany blue sole peeking out.

I love a fun flat shoe.  Metallic is my go-to choice, but if you’re looking for prints, I found a few options.

Sole Society Quinn Flat ($64.95)

This stylish flat comes in this chic, dotted print, a black stripe, or a leopard print.  I think it would look great with black separates, jeans, or bright colors.  Prefer round-toe flats?  These Lucky Brand flats are a great option.

Express Snakeskin Flats ($40)

These snakeskin flats have more of a texture than a print, but they’re a cool option.  If you want a more casual option in snakeskin print, Yosi Samra has some nice options.  Looking for more of a snakeskin print? These Cole Haan shoes have a great print and are on sale at 6pm.com.

Charlotte Russe Geo Print Flat ($23)

Want a really crazy print?  I like these flats with their cheery color palette.  Like the print but not the color palette?  These open-toe flats come in a black-and-white Aztec print.

I have some awesome ballet flats with a mostly pointed toe from Steve Madden- I put some gel inserts in and they’re my new favorite shoe. I like that my toes are covered and not pinched, and that they’ve lasted through the winter without any scuffing or fading. They had them in fun colors at DSW…

I love the Banana Republic Ashley Bow flats. I have several fun patterns and they often go on sale. They are under $100 not on sale regardless. I think they hold up well, are structured, and are comfortable!

Love these in the coral–so good for spring–https://www.clarksusa.com/us/womens/womens-medium-width/Grayson-Erica-Coral-Leather/p/26107799

  4. I love Missoni flats for adding some color to an otherwise solid outfit. If you look on Shopstyle there are a number of pairs for less than 150.

If you like the look of Tieks I would look at Yosi Samra. They’re basically the same thing without the bright blue bottom and they’re only $75 at full price. I have 3 pairs all in fun color combos and they’ve been fantastic. Good luck!

Though I wouldn’t wear them to a conservative office for weekends and errands I adore Dogo shoes ( https://www.dogostore.com/en/category/Shoes-43/MsDogo-44/Flats-48/ ) I bought a pair for my sister and she loves them and wears them constantly. They are definitely fun and I’ve never seen anyone else wearing them. They ship internationally for free. Only disadvantage is that they only go up to a Euro size 40
