Sweater with Folded Hem ($85) // Scallop Hem Skirt ($42) // Asos Peony Platforms ($35)

Asos is one of my favorite places to find hidden gems.  Not all of my purchases have been winners, sometimes things show up and aren’t as advertised, but I’ve won more than I’ve lost.  This outfit combines the best of winter with an extra injection of style.

If you’re not feeling the green skirt, Asos offers this oxblood colored skirt instead.  Prefer a blouse?  This v-neck top is a lovely option.  Want to add some jewelry?  I would push up the sleeves and add a bold bracelet.

How has your luck been with Asos jewelry? The prices seem good for a cheap trend piece, but I can’t tell how quickly they’re likely to deteriorate.

  2. D says:

    4 inch leopard-print heels?

    • Anna says:

I think if you’re pairing them with a knee length or lower skirt and loose fitting sweater, they aren’t too much. Of course, Belle has shown several pairs of leopard print shoes in much lower heel heights on other posts that would work just as well.

  3. Amy says:

Belle- I have a skirt much like the above, and I’ve been dying to wear it this winter with my blush-pink blazer or blush-pink blouse, but I’m so confused on legwear with an outfit like this for the winter that I was thinking I would just have to wait until spring to wear it. What would be your tights choice to wear this outfit now?

    • Jenn S. says:

Ooh, good question – and I have a follow-up that might help someone out:

When wearing leopard, tortoise, or snakeskin shoes, are black tights considered OK to be, ‘compliant,’ with the 2-out-of-3 rule?

      • Amy says:

Jenn- I have wondered the same thing! I’d love some input on legwear to make this outfit do-able in cold weather. Would black shoes/ blacck tights be too “flat”?

      • Belle says:

Yeah, I think you can try black. Personally, I would go with nude hose or nude fishnets.

    • V says:

I’d really like Belle’s thoughts on this too. I’m in an office that is not conservative enough for suits everyday, but is conservative enough that I stay away from colored tights other than black, gray, brown and oxblood. I’d love to rock a green skirt in the winter, but I just don’t think green tights would fly.

    • Belle says:

If you’re going to go pink of top, I recommend either nude fishnets or grey tights with grey shoes.

  4. Christine says:

That sweater isn’t too chunky of a knit and/or too casual (the neckline, the hem, the drop shoulder…) for that sleek skirt and it’s particular hemline? I would have also thought that pointy-toe heels would be a better contract with the round lines on the skirt and sweater instead of such a short and think round-toe pump.

Just wanted to say that I love this series! Thanks!

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.
