1) Some people want their career to be their passion.  Others just want a good job.  Levo League has the question you need to ask yourself if you think your career path falls into the first category.

2) This black satchel from Target is perfectly modern.  It’s also 30%-off with code JOY30.

3) LinkedIn covers the career choices that you may regret.  I agree with “thinking you can change something about the job” and undervaluing your own happiness.

4) The Net-a-Porter work dress section makes it hard not to covet expensive designer fashions.  Luckily, I can appreciate this phenomenal Burberry dress with chiffon sleeves, this patterned Narciso Rodriguez dress, and this Roland Mouret sculpted sheath from afar.

5) 7 Tips for Writing Cold E-mails to Prospective Employers.

6) Looking for some work pieces under-$100?  This Halogen skirt in a metallic pewter is a unique option.  I also love this black peplum jacket from Forever21.  And don’t miss this short sleeve, burgundy dress from H&M.

7) A Korean Airlines VP, who is also the daughter of the airline’s chairman, threw a temper tantrum on a flight over a bag of macadamia nuts.  Her father promptly fired her.  The article discusses some interesting cultural issues.

8) This MAC Keepsakes Palette has all my favorite eyeshadow shades in one place. So gorgeous.

9) It’s almost the New Year so I’m thinking about ways to improve my financial habits.  A columnist at The Cut has 11 great tips for getting financially healthy.

10) This Delicat heel has a sculpted vamp that is perfectly feminine and chic.  They’re the perfect thing for transitioning from day-to-night.  I can’t believe they’re only $39.

11) The Atlantic has an article about a structural shift in the American workforce.  More men describe themselves as “non-working” than ever before, and the increasing industrialization is eliminating “manliness.”  It’s an interesting take.

12) Continuing my Stella & Dot obsession, I bought this Aria layered necklace, and I am obsessed with it.

Long time reader, first time commenter. 🙂 I just wanted to tell you that I so appreciate the time and energy you put into this blog. As a professional woman who loves some fun fashion, this blog has been my go-to for years. This morning it struck me that I’ve never expressed my admiration and appreciate for Capitol Hill Style, and I because it’s Christmas – and at Christmas you tell the truth – To me, your blog is perfect. (Love Actually, holla!) *Also, I’m a total dork. 😉 HAPPY HOLIDAYS, Belle.

Gah, feel free to correct all the typos up there. Goodness. Obviously my coffee has not yet taken ahold of my brain.

  3. Tiffany says:

I bought the burgundy dress from H&M, and while I wanted to love it, the darting on the chest is awkward, so I had to return it. I’m a larger chested, so maybe it would work better on smaller chests.

  4. SN says:

I am a pilot. What was particularly appalling about the KAL incident was the blatant violation of aviation law. The pilot is, by definition, PIC-Pilot In Command. His or her orders, which focus on passenger safety, are the only ones that count, and that passengers must follow. You simply do not taxi an airliner back to the gate for anything other than a real emergency. A packet of nuts isn’t an emergency. ATC was also at fault here for letting this happen, but my guess is the pilot lied in order to save face. Sad.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
