Ask Belle: Stylish Weekend Loungewear

Dec 15, 2014

Hi Belle,

I have a weird question for you: What do you wear on the weekends?

I’m taking my first staycation after the holidays.  I’m just going to hang out at home with girlfriend, binge-watch West Wing episodes and order takeout.  It’s going to be great.  I really don’t want to spend three days in my pajamas though, so I hope you have some suggestion for stylish “couch clothes.”

Love the blog! Charlotte

Oh, how I love a good stay-cation.  May I also recommend House of Cards and, if you’re a Sorkin fan, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip?

I have a very strict weekend uniform: leggings and sweatshirts with tunic tops.  That’s all I wear when I’m just hanging out at home.

My leggings of choice are the Zella Live In Leggings (also in plus-size).  Though if you’re looking for something cheaper, the BP wide-waistband leggings are a good choice.

If it’s t-shirts you’re after, I love the $15 tees from Everlane.  They’re a great buy, and the perfect mix of fitted and slouchy.  Prefer something in a tunic length?  I like Victoria’s Secret Essential Tees, also $15.

Athleta Hurdle Wrap Neck Sweatshirt ($89)

My apartment is not exactly warm.  If I’m home, I’m wearing a sweatshirt.  I love Athleta’s sweatshirts; they’re chic and wear like iron.  This wrap-neck sweatshirt is great.  I also like their scoop neck Sharkbite sweatshirts for that slouchy, Jennifer Beals look.  And their Acacia sweater gives you the look of a sweatshirt in a soft, sweater-knit material.

Also, if you’re looking for a sweatshirt to replace the college or campaign sweatshirt most of us long in, I love a funnel-neck sweatshirt.  This Bella Lux sweatshirt is the perfect “grown-up” option.  And this funnel neck sweatshirt from Eddie Bauer is a great under-$50 option.  It also comes in five gorgeous colors.

Looking for loungewear for less?  Old Navy is the place to be.  This striped, funnel-neck pullover is the perfect mix of cozy and chic.  I also like this waffle-knit sweater and this basic hoodie, both under-$20.

Does anyone have a recommendation for black leggings for petite women? I’m 4’ll and have a heck of a time finding leggings that don’t bunch up at my ankles.

Belle – LOVE that you just recommended “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” – I second it! Such a shame that it only ran for one season. It was a pretty great show.

What sort of underwear do people wear under their Zellas, or none?

  4. Katy says:

I would also suggest the Lou & Grey line at Loft for cute loungewear.

The Find: A Versatile Sweater Jacket

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
